From a global pandemic to social unrest to election messes to murder hornets, 2020 and beyond has been a time of maximum chaos. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Because, there are professionals inside and outside of government who are responsible for keeping us prepared for these things.

When disasters happen, they spring into action to coordinate and communicate so that instead of confusion and fear, we get clarity and confidence. These are the emergency managers, and the disaster zone is their world. It is their job to live there and to be ready, always and everywhere, to do battle with the crisis.

In New York City, over the past 20 years, emergency managers have done battle with so many crises, from terror attacks to blizzards to heat waves to hurricanes to pandemics. The lessons learned in the disaster zone, along with some great stories, are contained in this remarkable book.

Moment of Truth will explain what went wrong in 2020. It takes a complicated and perplexing topic and gives you a straightforward how-to recipe for when the next “Big One” hits.

Good story for the general public, although ideas were a bit academia at times and not always practical in real life. Narrator was hard to follow at times with many different scenarios going on.

Good foray into Disaster preparedness

Governments are not ready or prepared to help you in any kind of a crisis. The author's main point seems to be to try to convince you of that and tell you to take action to prepare yourself. But he gives no specifics about those actions you could take. instead, he tells you how hard he has worked in dysfunctional systems interspersed with multiple elaborate imagined disaster scenarios.
