About this listen
Bad Republican by Meghan McCain
In her intimate, first audio memoir, Meghan McCain finds herself at a transitional moment: With the passing of her war-hero father and the birth of her daughter Liberty, Meghan realizes she’s becoming a different woman. Known as a Republican rebel and a departing cohost of The View, new mom Meghan McCain tells her story - in her own words. She invites listeners inside the unwavering heart and ferocious mind of a young conservative woman who refuses to back down.
With the aptly titled Bad Republican, McCain expresses how it is to feel like you no longer fit in with your political party. She tells of growing up the daughter of an American icon who shaped her life and details the heartbreaking final moments spent by his side. She recalls her (mis)adventures on the New York dating scene and brings us up to speed on meeting her now-husband. We hear her views on cancel culture and internet trolls as well as life backstage as the sole Republican at America’s most-watched daytime talk show - and why she decided to leave. Revealingly, she relays the awkward phone call she received from Donald and Melania and where she thinks the Republican Party and the country go from here. And with surprising candor, she divulges why a miscarriage and the birth of her daughter have left her so fired up about women’s rights - even if that puts her at odds with her party.
Unsparingly honest, deeply relatable, and highly entertaining, Bad Republican is as personal as a story gets. It’s a memoir imbued with an unmistakable maverick spirit.

Agree to disagree
I am here for it. This book made me realize why I had to stop watching The View. They weren’t inspiring woman I saw they were old hags bickering. They seem vengeful and antiquated.
I don’t consider myself a conservative what’s so ever but she is right. Not being to associate with someone or being less forgiving because of their party seems extreme!
Also Meghan if you see this sorry for judging you so harshly.

All Meghan, Through and Through!
I love Meghan. I am a democrat who typically disagrees with her, but I just love her style and the fact she is unapologetically herself. I loved listening to her talk about her experiences during the last few years since her father passed away. I made it through the book pretty quickly. I was bummed it was as short as it was!

Honest and insightful
I loved how she was honest about her treatment at the View. I began watching the View again, because of Meghan McCain, but had to stop due to her treatment. I’m sick off people not being able to disagree like human beings. That is how we learn, that is how we get to an understanding and that is how we become a better society. The View is hateful and continues the disturbing trends of liberalism in today society. I also love she is another conservative who can not and will not support Trump and his hateful rhetoric.

Bad Democrat
I absolutely adored this presentation. Meghan McCain and the relationship she shared with her father has always been something I wish I could have had. Losing a parent particularly a father at 11 years old I only heard stories of what a wonderful teacher he was and what a great senior sponsor he was and how he wanted to go to law school and how he loved his mother and how he loved his sister and other stories that as an adult you want to hear first hand. I started watching The View when Meghan started on the show. And I stopped watching when she resigned. I was thinking she must watch all of the shows I watch because her thought process is like mine. She says at one point she could see it coming. I know what she meant. I get it. Thank you very much for your point of view and not dummying down what you said on air. Thank you for putting yourself out there Meghan. And thank you to your parents. I'm sure you know this -- you are very lucky! You are not a bad anything.

Real Republicans
enjoyed how honest and genuine you are. As you gain life experiences you may look back and see how you and your father are very much like DT and DTJ. Patriots is what I see in all of you. I voted for your father and DT because of patriotism. Glad to hear your position on Sarah Palin, she took so many bullets during your father’s campaign I wondered who was running for President. Most of my friends are Republicans and we all believe in Pro Choice. But the 15 weeks makes sense to all of us. The policy of school choice and less government makes us Republicans. I never watched The View but you would have been the reason to watch.
Trump is Nationalist. Kind of interesting so is China, Russia and UK exiting EU. Your family fought for freedom, I find it interesting your position on Trump. He speaks no different than your father did. Both crude but honest! I would love to see you represent the progressive republicans in the future. You have a wonderful opportunity to make a difference. Seek to understand and that insight will lead you to greatness, your father gave you a solid foundation. PS love your husband, great choice! He’s like most of us. May God bless you and your family.

I didn’t expect the victim mentality!
First off, I’ve been an avid watcher of the view since day one. I have always appreciated Meghans point of you and perspective to make sure it wasn’t all one sided. As someone who constantly bulldozed the conversation and often had harsh words for her co-hosts and guests, I have always thought of Meghan as a tough cookie. But this book is full of blame on everyone who she thinks is against her. She had no ownership of her part in any of it. If this is how she really thinks then I feel very sorry for her. She has a perspective that needs to be heard, but I think she needs to get out of her own way so that people can actually hear her.
All of the stuff she writes about her father was beautiful and you do get a glimpse of what he was like as a father to her. For this alone the book is worth listening to. It’s a beautiful tribute.
But the victim vibe made me nauseous and really sad for her. Very spoiled brat vibes like the world needs to revolve around her and should understand all the things she is going through. With zero accountability for her part and zero grace or acknowledgment of what anyone else may have been going through. I hope the therapy helps her. ❤️

Good! Love you Miss Meghan
I liked this book, good tea & insight into the view’s bullying tactics but slightly whiny. I miss Meghan greatly on The View she added so much to that show and I don’t watch anymore. The other hosts completely bully anyone with a different opinion and if they just listened to Meghan’s points they maybe would’ve understood a lot of ppl in this country more instead of dismissing her so much. Meghan has her ear to the ground bc she talks with a lot of different ppl (unlike many in the “news”) and respects their opinions, not just degrades them. Miss McCain does come off a bit whiny in this book though & I wish she would not care as much about other peoples opinions bc she is a wonderful, giving, fun, intelligent person and it shows in her actions and words.

Meghan shouldn't have narrated
From a Meghan fan, objectively: Book offered great insight into demystifying which McCain is however, appeared more like a declaration of her beliefs and an explanation letter to her daughter. Meghan is very intense and likely should not have narrated the book because she sounded ready for war the entire book, even during celebrated moments. Not too many light moments that make you laugh or that made her laugh. If so, you may not hear it correctly because of how intense she is. Otherwise, finished in 1 day and enjoyed for what it's worth.
