About this listen

Two men battle the wilderness - and desire.

It's 1793, and Simon Cavendish needs to get to his station at Fort Charlotte, a fur-trading outpost in the untamed Canadian wild. The fort is only accessible by canoe, and there's just one man daring enough to take him on the perilous, thousand-mile journey from Montreal this late in the summer.

Young Christian Smith, the son of an Ojibwe mother and absent English father, is desperate for money to strike out on his own, so he agrees to take clueless Simon deep into the wild. As they travel endless lakes and rivers, they butt heads.

Yet the attraction between Simon and Christian, two men from vastly different worlds, grows ever stronger. Locked in a battle against the wilderness and elements, how long can they fight their desire for each other?

Contains mature themes.

1793 City Slicker

A “city slicker” in 1793, Simon has no idea the journey he is asking to attempt to get from Montreal to Fort Charlotte before autumn hits. Luckily he has wilderness-experienced Christian to take him there. Simon has to get honest and Christian has to gain trust. They end up wanting to spend their HEA together.

One of Ms Andrew’s best books! Loved Mr Leslie in this one.

Despite the short length, it felt like an 8 hour book and I got really obsessed with it. I looked up maps and history because of this book. And I hate history. It’s on repeat and it gets all the stars.

Short but good

I really liked this story. The love story was sweet. There was so much more I would have liked to hear about. Just to short. I hope there is a sequel.

Well written short story.

This is a short story yet the build up to the the ending didn't seem overly rushed like many short stories.

I love Joel Leslie as a narrator. He brings the right tone to the right mood in any book he reads.

Sweet short story

Very sweet short story about young love, adventure, travel, and starting a life together. Excellent narration by Joel Leslie— I love when he does British accents! His voice has this quavery longing in it that adds to the feelings of lust, love, desire. I Highly recommend this story, and all audiobooks performed by Joel Leslie.

Too short.

Very good but too short. Would have loved a fuller story. Too but there’s not MORE.

Way too short.

I was genuinely confused at how short this story is. I wondered if I had missed a bunch of chapters, but no, just super short. The story feels incomplete. Like, after the MCs confess, then what? The story had so much potential. Almost seems not worth having listened to the beginning because it feels like I stopped a book a third way in. Anyways, the narrator isn't my favorite. I don't care for the undulating voice of Joel Leslie. Honestly, I'd just skip this book. Wasn't really worth my time.

Short and sweet

Loved the quick pace, but fulfilling romance. As well as a wonderful performance in this book
