Best-selling author Rick Riordan presents the finale of Kwame Mbalia's trilogy, in which Tristan Strong faces off with his archenemy, King Cotton, once and for all.

"Imagine if you combined Anansi the Spider, John Henry, and Marvel into, like, one book." (New York Times best-selling author and Newbery Medalist Kwame Alexander)

After reuniting with Ayanna, who is now in his world, Tristan travels up the Mississippi in pursuit of his archenemy, King Cotton. Along the way they encounter new haints who are dead set on preventing their progress north to Tristan's hometown of Chicago. It's going to take many Alkean friends, including the gods themselves, the black flames of the afokena gloves, and all of Tristan's inner strength to deliver justice once and for all. Shocking twists, glorious triumphs, and a cast of unforgettable characters make this series conclusion as satisfying as it is entertaining.

This is one of the best history lessons I've ever heard. The author, Kwame Mbalia, masterfully revealed the sinisterly created system that is meant to serve the "privileged" off the blood, sweat, tears, and souls of others (old Angola). How history left untold continues to repeatedly itself, (chattled slavery/prisons, hangings/lynchings, kidnapping of children, forced migration/Trail of Tears, stealing of land/redlining, etc.). Malian used current social anti-heros (children of color, nonbinary individuals, indigenous people, those who need a device to transport through life) as super heros. I appreciate how the telling of policing (boss, overseers, patrolers, breakers, prison guards) came about and gives honor to innocent teenagers, like Trayvon Martin, and many others who were killed due to "citizen arrests." This is a book and series that should be apart of every American household and every American school.

In addition to the rich and robust story line, the reader, Amir Abdullah, brought the story to life as a true anasi-sim. His ability to shape his voice to the personalities of the characters, was brilliant. He is a master at his craft and a true gem.

This is a brilliant amplification of history purposefully voided from American societal conversation.
