River Demchenko, attorney for the Kings of Men MC, takes risks. He craves rough relationships and lives on the edge between acceptable and criminal. When Officer Paxton calls looking for an attorney after his husband mysteriously dies, River takes another questionable leap. Paxton is the only cop who has ever treated him with respect, so helping to clear his name only seems fair. After all, everyone deserves a second chance, even a cop.

Officer and Private Investigator Jayce Paxton has his world ripped apart and becomes a widower. He throws himself into his work and is shocked when he stumbles on his lawyer, River, drugged and hurt. River is caught up in a blackmailing scheme, and he’s being threatened by the same people Jayce and his team are investigating as sex traffickers. In order to find the traffickers, Jayce needs to enter a seedy underworld River is all too familiar with. To make the act convincing, Jayce persuades River to pretend he’s his boyfriend - and let people think Jayce is his Dom.

One problem: Jayce likes his role too much.

They need to find the men extorting River before he winds up without a job, or worse. Despite their unexpected attraction, they have to keep their focus on solving the case, or more lives could be destroyed. River has been hurt before and isn’t sure he can deal with more than the sham relationship, but Jayce will give it his all to change River’s mind and keep him safe.

loved it from start to finish. love the detail in the scenes. maybe would have been fun to have seen some more heavy scenes between the two tho.

it was a very well put together book

Really good control/submission stories are hard to find, but this one checks all the boxes. Character development for both River and Jayce really pulls you in and makes both lovable and fascinating. The narrator has a unique quality to his voice that I find extremely sexy, although he speaks very slowly. It’s better at 1.2 speed than 1.0.

The plot is just convoluted enough to be a bit unpredictable, and the heat level is high. Pretty graphic, which I love, and the dialog is far more believable than most dom/sub books.

The only thing I didn’t like much is the nickname “Lamb.” I didn’t think it fit River too well, as he’s far feistier than any lamb, even at his softer core.

Steamy goodness, interesting plot, and beautiful narration

This book was a very detailed look at the aspect of how submission and dominance can be a natural need and reaction to another person and to everyday life stresses! River is a tough hardcore lawyer for a Biker Gang and Jayce is an ex military cop. So you will have to listen to experience and understand why Jayce is a natural dominant and River needs submission to survive! There is an underlying case of trying to stop a trafficking ring.. and how River and Jayce are brought together for this was quite intense! A lot of BDSM scenes.. first ones for Jayce! I enjoyed this narrator's voices.. especially going British for Jayce! It is a longer listen due to all the details so I recommend for those who are very interested in the Dom and Sub relationship. I totally enjoyed how characters from the other series/books intertwined into this one! Madden is hilarious! Enjoy!!

I really enjoyed the initial animosity between River and Jayce and the way their feelings for each other changed so much as they are forced to rely on each other while pretending to be in a D/s relationship; River is such a prickly creature but also so very vulnerable and needy. I loved that dichotomy and seeing Jayce gradually learn that about River and give him what he needs was wonderful.

Narration: Bentley Jameson is a new-to-me narrator. I very much enjoyed his interpretation of this story and the voices he did for both River and Jayce. The accent he did for Jayce really helped bring to life the character.

Steamy D/s romance with great MC's!

Enjoyable and stimulating story! I listened straight through, except for having to sleep at some point last night. Ki Brightly and Meg Bawden are quite the combination when it comes to writing stories with action and lots of sexual heat. This is my third book by this pair of authors and I will likely buy the next book they pen without hesitation. I like lots of sex and this book serves up plenty. The premise that a cop would work with a motorcycle gang and one of their lawyers had some iffy points in my opinion. There were a couple of situations where the cop, the lawyer, and the bad guys were talking that I found unbelievable. I think someone would have been killed rather than continue on with the hunt for sex slave traders, most likely the cop. However, those points that required suspension of belief didn't cause me to dislike the book. I will most likely re-read this again at some point because the good parts most definely outweighed any other issues.

An enjoyable listen
