Empowering strategies for anyone who works with children and teens on the spectrum.

Internationally best-selling writer and autist Temple Grandin joins psychologist Debra Moore in presenting nine strengths-based mindsets necessary to successfully work with young people on the autism spectrum. Examples and stories bring the approaches to life, and detailed suggestions help listeners put them to practical use.

Temple Grandin shares her own personal experiences and anecdotes from parents and professionals who have sought her advice, while Debra Moore draws on more than three decades of work as a psychologist with kids on the spectrum and those who love and care for them. So many people support the lives of these kids, and this book is for all of them: teachers; special education staff; mental health clinicians; physical, occupational, and speech therapists; parents; and anyone interacting with autistic children or teens.

As a high functioning autistic person with ADHD, and now with brain damage, this book is changing the perspective of how I used to do things. It also showed me that all the steps that everyone was taken was correct… Now I just have to figure out how to tweak a lot of different things to fit my new brain.

I am definitely ordering a hard copy of this book to keep for reference. This book is a "must have" for parents, healthcare professionals, teachers, school administrators, daycare workers, and anyone else who has a child with diagnosed or suspected Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The information contained herein is definitely a roadmap for Navigating Autism, and includes everything from symptoms of co-occurring disorders and physical illnesses, to managing non-verbal communication and tests that primary care doctors can use, to ways that families can advocate for their toddler to middle school/preteen child. I hope they come out with a version for Navigating Autism for teens and adults. 4 stars for the narrator as her voice is a but monotone and bland, although neurodivergent persons may find this more tolerable than myself.

Excellent book gor professionals and parents

An autism label does not define my child.

Insights are valuable. Pandemic insights might not be applicable post pandemic. Some laws not applicable in other countries, but values and guidelines remain the same.
Ideal for entire team involved with the child.
