Riveting and fresh

I couldn’t stop listening to this book! The characters are vivid and I was quickly engrossed in the story as it wove around them. It was refreshing to hear about the Civil War from new perspectives and experiences. The reader also did a wonderful job in using voices to make the book come alive. Highly recommend!

Exceptional story, held on until the end

This was a wonderful story, full of love and heartbreak; masterfully written and exceptionally narrated. I could not stop listening. The prose was so well written, I could see myself in the characters and the places - almost felt like I was another character in the book. I can see this book becoming a movie - the stories are interwoven in a coherent and clear manner, inviting the listener at all times to continue. Expect great things from these two authors!

Love & respect between a black slave & and Jewish immigrant

This is an incredibly touching & well written journey during the Civil War. The relationships between races, slaves & and northern family are so beautifully interwoven! Loved the narration too!!

Jacob and William’s bond if friendship

I enjoyed the whole book , as well as the reading of it. The reading bought the story alive!

Kept my Attention

Love this book I love love love civil war and pre antebellum time era books set in Louisiana this book did not disappoint. Would recommend it.
