Shattered by the past

Michael Novak was a US marshal with his whole life figured out. Right up until the woman he called partner betrayed him. He’s been hiding in Bliss, CO, trying to pull himself out of the darkness. The only bright light is Lucy Carson. Something about Trio’s favorite waitress calls to him, but he can’t trust his instincts anymore.

Yearning for the future

Lucy has loved Tyler since they were kids, but he never seemed to feel the same way. She worried she would never want a man the way she does Ty, and then Michael grumbled his way into her world. Beyond the broody exterior she sees a burning fire in his eyes, and she is drawn to that flame.

The time is finally right

Ty knows Lucy is the one for him, but Lucy wrote him off romantically long ago. If he could get her to see him in a different light, he knows she would realize that they’re perfect for each other. His obstacle is the town’s reclusive former lawman, Michael. But this is Bliss. A rival can turn into a partner for the right woman. And Lucy is definitely the right woman.

Ty approaches Michael with a plan to get Lucy between them. A bargain is made, and Lucy is their target. But Lucy is already in much more dangerous crosshairs. Murder has come to Bliss, and Lucy is at the center of the investigation.

Although I guessed who the bad guy was pretty early on, Lexi did a great job throwing in twist and turns making you question if your right.

I love listening to Kitty and Lee, they do a great job bring the story to life. I find myself laughing out loud in public at the crazy scenes. The meeting of the men was amazing.

Lexi does a great job pulling you into a story and making you feel like part of the Bliss family. I have listened and read every book in the series and have grown with the characters.

With these stories I am able to escape the real world and hang out with some crazy people who always keep you entertained. I can’t wait to see how Van and Hal deal with the new lady in town. And wonder if she is clearing the way for Sawyer and Stella’s niece or she could bring Trina back. So many possibilities I can’t wait!

Loved it!

I absolutely LOVE this series! Each book builds on the last, mostly, and reveals each character a little more. I love that there is a whole town of folks who love the ménage lifestyle! Not a single one of these books are cheesy either! The narration is fantastic too! Can’t wait for the next book!

This review is for the audiobook format, Bliss book 12 and I listened at 1.1 speed.

I’ll start by saying I read Masters &Mercenaries: Og, LB, and Reloaded first before reading the spin-offs. As the stories were more complex, had series arcs with excellent characters, dialogue, and fabulous narration I come into the Bliss series with a certain expectation. “Far from Bliss” centers around the main characters relationship, second chances and self-forgiveness. I wouldn’t recommend this book to those who want more story than sex, or do not appreciate explicit sex scenes.

Overall, it’s a HEA, with some great sex scenes, and ok book story line.

What I enjoyed: Ty & Michael’s byplay, the dichotomy was fantastic! I preferred the male narration with Michael’s gravelly voice and Ty’s enthusiasm; the female narration for the female characters was good. I liked how Blake introduces characters prior to their primary story. I connected emotionally to the story through Michael and LoL with Michael/Ty’s “odd couple” relationship.

What didn’t hit my preferences:
The story had potential as did the characters backstories but they felt out of balance with each other & the sex scenes. While I prefer more intrigue and a series story arc with the book plot, the book story plot was built sufficiently but again seemed like a sideline effort. The book dialogue felt more clunky when transitioning topics. I prefer sassy, smart, kind, flawed females, and Lacy’s character seemed too passive for my tastes. I felt there was chemistry for Michael and Ty which was hinted at but could have been actively explored. I wish the character’s backstories were integrated to drive the story more. The narration was good but not on point for me and I don’t know if some of it was editing/production. For instance, the male narrator spoke without as much delay between words and sentences as the female. I listened at 1.1 to help bridge the gap; 1 being too slow for the female and 1.2 too fast for the male narrator. My preference when listening to an audiobook with multiple narrators is performance style rather than alternating chapters.
