Inconsistent psychic Leda Foley and Seattle detective Grady Merritt return to solve the case of a missing couple in this sequel to the “delightful” (The New York Times Book Review) mystery Grave Reservations.

When psychic travel agent Leda Foley is approached by a man searching for his sister, she quickly agrees to help. The missing woman disappeared with a vintage orange car, a fat sack of her employer’s cash, and a grudge against her philandering husband—a man who never even reported her missing.

Meanwhile, Seattle PD detective Grady Merritt has temporarily misplaced his dog. While he’s passing out bright pink “Lost” flyers at the Mount Rainier visitor’s center, the wayward pooch appears—with a human leg in his mouth.

Thanks to DNA matching, Grady learns that the leg has something to do with Leda’s new client, and soon the two cases are tangled.

Theories abound, but law enforcement is low on leads. Lucky for Grady, Leda has a few ideas that might just be crazy enough to work. They’ll need one yellow dog, a fair share of teamwork, and perhaps a bit of Klairvoyant Karaoke to piece the clues together in this “undeniable treat” (Gwenda Bond, New York Times bestselling author) of a mystery.

Critic reviews

"Two talented narrators, Ulka Simone Mohanty and Timothy Andres Pabon, alternate chapters as they deliver the second in Priest’s Booking Agent series. The result is an entertaining listen featuring Leda Foley, who has unpredictable psychic abilities, and Seattle homicide detective Grady Merritt. When Grady’s dog is found with a human leg in his mouth, he consults with Leda. They team up to find the rest of the body and a related missing person. Pabon provides an easygoing, credible voice for Grady, a single father. Mohanty portrays Leda and her friends with lively energy that matches their personalities."

This book did a much better job with fleshing out the characters. Add the better characters with a good mystery and this is a much better story than the first book.

I will definitely get the next book in the series.

A better story

The Male Narrator leaves MUCH to be desired, It’s a most unfortunate addition that will hopefully not be repeated in the next book. All of his female characters sound like strange High School movie knock offs. The saving grace for this book is the exquisite story line and subtle humor.

The Male Narrator leaves MUCH to be desired, but good story.

This book is the second one in Cherie Priest’s series about Lena, a travel agent with emerging psychic talents, and Grady, an open-minded police detective. I enjoyed both books. The writing is excellent with fun dialogue and cast of characters. Quite a few twists and turns keep you guessing as the unlikely duo work to solve murder mysteries. Fun and five stars!
I hope the author continues the series!

I stumbled upon the author’s first book in this series by happenstance, and as I flipped through the pages on my 14 hour flight, I was so glad I did. This second book’s storyline did not disappoint! Although it was a quick listen, the plot still managed to be funny and engaging. Nor did it lag unnecessarily.

The only negative critique was the narrator for the detective. The book is so quirky and upbeat, but his narration really dulled that down for me. By no means is he a bad narrator, but this book just wasn’t the right fit for his tone of voice and delivery. I found myself wondering, why we even needed 2 narrators.

All in all, it was a 4.5 out of 5. I am in love with the author’s writing style and the characters. I can’t wait for the next in the series.

Great book!

Two good mysteries in one story - and while light and cozy, you don't see the answers coming. Development of the characters from the first volume is delightful.I'm really looking forward to the next book.
