International Teacher-Artist Partnership (I-TAP-PD) is an exciting collaboration between four European arts and education organisations. The program focuses on enabling teachers and artists to jointly develop their understanding, expertise and creativity in ‘arts in education’ work with children and young people in education, community and arts settings.     Paul Collard has been the Chief Executive of Creativity, Culture and Education, where he retired from. He has 25 years’ experience of working in the arts and is an expert in delivering programs that use creativity and culture as drivers of social and economic change.

    'We defined the creative habits of mind: curious, inquisitive, persistent, disciplined and collaborative. I believe that creativity is the way we learn. I believe that learning is the most wonderfull thing we humans have came up with. But the tragedy is that most children are locked out of learning, by schools, who do not promote learning, but promote schooling.'

  • Miranda Siemelink on what happened when teachers, artists and students co-create in the Lab.

    Miranda Siemelink workes as a project lead at the Lab, from CultuurOost. The Lab is a professional learning community, consisting of arts educators, teachers, students from both art school and teacher training, artists, musicians and other experts.

    They spend 4 years working together on enhancing arts education, divided in different groups. The Lab that Miranda has worked on, one of four, was centered around maker education.

  • Jane O'Hanlon on how Poetry Ireland fills the gap between writers and schools

    Jane O'Hanlon, education officer of Poetry Ireland. We talk about the initiative Writers in Schools. She started as a teacher in a prison. She tells us what she learned from the inmates and still uses in her work. And she talks about how she thinks the arts help children to ask the big questions.

    'The most powerfull experience of my teaching career has been reading King Lear with the inmates. They knew King Lear from the inside. It was a great example of how arts can help reflect and learn.'
