Her city is under siege.

The zombies are coming back.

And all Nona wants is a birthday party.

In many ways, Nona is like other people. She lives with her family, has a job at her local school, and loves walks on the beach and meeting new dogs. But Nona's not like other people. Six months ago she woke up in a stranger's body, and she's afraid she might have to give it back.

The whole city is falling to pieces. A monstrous blue sphere hangs on the horizon, ready to tear the planet apart. Blood of Eden forces have surrounded the last Cohort facility and wait for the Emperor Undying to come calling. Their leaders want Nona to be the weapon that will save them from the Nine Houses. Nona would prefer to live an ordinary life with the people she loves, with Pyrrha and Camilla and Palamedes, but she also knows that nothing lasts forever.

And each night, Nona dreams of a woman with a skull-painted face...

Featured Article: Best of the Year—The 12 Best Sci-Fi Listens of 2022

This year’s sci-fi didn’t shy away from heavy, timely topics like climate change, pandemics, and social justice, but even as the subject matter hit close to home, the listening reached to new heights. Several stunning multicast productions make up this list—as well as narrators we can’t hear enough of. In a world that seems increasingly science fictional by the year, the bar is only set higher for creators in this genre—and this year’s list inches it up a little more.

Compelling Characters • Intricate Worldbuilding • Exceptional Voice Acting • Unexpected Twists • Emotional Depth

Love the characters but this one was just too hard for me to get into. Gideon the Ninth was epic and accessible. The sequel, Harrow, was a bit tougher but still possible to follow/sort out what was going on. After eagerly awaiting/pre-ordering Nona, I just found it really difficult to fit into the other stories for the most part. Still love the world that has been built, but hoping Alecto makes a bit more (or any) sense. There was too much to fill in here, in terms of technological/mythological underpinning. I’ve finished and I’m completely unsure what it was all about.

Great author/series but Nona is hard to follow

Nona is a surprising character for the genre but so lovable it’s refreshing. Tamsyn brings us another great book

Another Great Book in the Series

Be prepared to be confused all the way to the end but love it anyway. But if you’ve made it this far into Muir’s Lesbian-Necromancers-In-Space series, you already know what to expect.

My only disappointment is that I want more.

Nona, sweet Nona. I love you. But I love Gideon most.

If you’ve listened to the first two you know what to expect… confusion that requires attention that pays off in the end

Entertaining again

The locked tomb series is a rare, complex, and tantalizing work of art. You will not absorb all the pieces on the first read and you are missing something if you do not listen to Moira Quirk's performance. She made the characters come alive in theatrical revelry and I wish I could take her and the author both out to coffee. Nona is an utterly charming addition to this treasure series.

Such pleasure
