A mysterious grimoire. A marriage full of dark secrets. A history sculpted by a quartet of ancient sister witches.

For 300 years, Sister Autumn has incited wars, burnt villages, killed kings, and released plagues at the bidding of the grimoire. Meanwhile, her Sister Winter, Sister Spring, and Sister Summer have brought forth only peace.

When an order from the grimoire sends Agatha to the Kingdom of Merveille, she already anticipates the worst. Unless she wants to face the wrath of the Goddess, Agatha must keep her head down and do as she's commanded.

But when the grimoire orders her to marry a pompous prince and play the role of a peasant "accepted" by vicious aristocrats, she finds herself at the center of a war between the classes and an age-old prophecy.

Within the court, many players harbor dark secrets—including her new husband. With her newfound influence, Agatha joins forces with the city's blacklisted in order to blur the lines between the common man and the elite, unravel the mysteries in her marriage, and decide once and for all if she will defy the grimoire and face the brutal consequences.

As secrets unfold, will Agatha continue to slay on behalf of the grimoire, or forge an uncharted history with her unlikely allies?

At first I wasn’t going to stick with the book it was kind of a boring blah start but I was glad I stuck it out because WOW what a great read! Went a direction I didn’t think it would and once it got there you knew there was a true love story a brewing! 😉

Season sisterhood is strong

I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS! The slow burn, the magic, the sisters! All of it! Looking forward to. Book two!

the way the narrators set the stage so perfectly and truly become Agatha and Grimm make everything about this 5 star read just that much better.

this book will always feel like home to me. while it’s heavy on the plot and quite a slow burn, the gothic romance does me in every time. 👏🏼

300 year old witches, an arranged marriage between Sister Autumn and a death dealer, a cute and protective bat as a familiar, an intriguing story line, secrets and hidden identities, grief and healing, cozy cottages and dark forests, and just everything you love about Autumn. I would give this 6 stars just based off vibes alone and how happy this book made me.

and Agatha’s relationship with her Sister Spring is so deeply touching and emotional for me. maybe it’s because I see my sisters and I in this story, but as I stated above, it’s home. this was my second listen and probably won’t be the last.

My husband and I listened to this book together and both loved it! The female and male leads are daring, intelligent, and beautifully kind though their cruel world tries to demand otherwise. The world is fascinating. The pacing of the story keeps you on edge, wondering with the characters what mysteries are unfolding (but maintains an easy-to-follow-along simplicity). We would definitely recommend it!

Sumptuous, atmospheric, a really bewitching read!

The perfect gothic and witchy read for the fall. So many amazing quotes throughout. Wonderful touching on subjects such as classism, oppression, political control, and religion.

Amazing book, amazing narration.
