When a mission ends in disaster—there is no way to achieve the objective, no way to regroup and try again, no plan B, no hope—all you can do is fall back into FAILURE MODE and try to salvage whatever you can.

...if it is even possible to save anything, or anyone.

The galaxy is doomed. Monkeys may be clever and too stubborn to give up, but Skippy The Idiot Who Got Played knows the harsh truth: this is a fight he can’t win. The odds are not only stacked against him, he was designed not to win this fight.

Maybe he can salvage some faint memory of the civilizations that inhabit the galaxy, but those beings are doomed. Doomed. Including the Merry Band of Pirates.

I’m extremely sad that this series is ending. I think it’s a huge mistake on the authors end to end this series. It has redefined how this class of audiobook is done. All other authors are scrambling to do something similar but different. This has been the best series I have ever listened to and I listen to 200+ audiobooks every year.

Note to the author: please bring back these characters in another series involving them trying to get to the bottom of the barrier. Skippy has a fan base that craves him.

Sad to see this end

quite a bit of blah blah blah, then butt fumbling their way to some type of ending per the usual. lots of loose ends, so perhaps there'll be a spin off series in the future

an ending i guess?

Through 14 books, we have seen the developing relationship between a man and his super-intelligent beer can. This book does a great job of bringing the emotional punch of a fully fleshed out relationship right to the breaking point of dire circumstances to see if it will survive.
If you are going into this book hoping that all the questions raised throughout the rest of the series are answered, you will be disappointed. I found beauty in the fact that Craig didn't try to tie everything up and was okay with questions that will stick with us well past the end. Like life, we don't get it all gift wrapped. We don't get to know the next adventure because Craig leaves it up to us and our imaginations. He admits there are future problems and future monkey-brained solutions that we won't see in this series and I'm okay with it. This story is over but Joe, Skippy, and crew will continue to have adventures in my head whether I think back on the ride we've all been through.
There were points in the story where I looked at the time remaining and wondered, "How is this going to end? There's so much left!" It ended as it journeyed - the improbable relationship between a beer can and his man. For that, I am happy.

What Kind of Beer Can Will I Be?
