From New York Times bestselling author Amanda Quick comes a delightful romp filled with breathtaking suspense, dazzling wit, and steamy Victorian passion . . .

The first kiss occurred in a dimly lit hallway on the upper floor of Elwin Hastings's grand house. Louisa Bryce never saw it coming. Of course, handsome, wealthy Anthony Stalbridge couldn't possibly have had romantic intentions. The kiss was merely meant to distract the armed guard about to catch the two unlikely sleuths. After all, the only thing these two interlopers have in common is a passionate interest in uncovering the dastardly secrets of Mr. Hastings—a prominent member of society whom they suspect of murder.

Brought together by their desire for the truth, Anthony and Louisa finally discover the incriminating evidence they're looking for. But bringing Hastings to justice will be more perilous than they anticipate, especially since their thrilling attraction to danger—and, it turns out, to each other—might very well get in the way . . .

Love Amanda Quick. Story line was good but couldn't get past the narration. The voices sounded like robots. They were awful.

Horrible, horrible narration

This is a re-release of a book published in 2007. This book has not aged well. The male protagonist is the stereotypical alpha male without the nuance one comes to expect from newer Amanda Quick novels. He manhandles the female protagonist, kissing her without permission, dragging her out of her chair and carrying her off to bed, again without permission. It’s very offputting, particularly since the female protagonist is spineless. Personally, I don’t care for the narrator’s style as it tends to be very, slow and draggy. If I play it at 1.3 times normal speed, it becomes tolerable. Otherwise, it’s almost sleep inducing.

A re-release of an old book.

I normally listen at 1.05 speed. With this narrator I set the speed at 1.20. This fixes any problems. The story has always been one of my favorites of Amanda's. I was not disappointeď.

Narration too slow for me but eàsily fixed.

The story was alright, but it was too stilted in language. The heroine was overly dramatic sometimes. The story was a bit predictable. The narrator didn't do well with the masculine characters.

ok but Krentz has better books

I normally like Amanda Quick for the escapism but couldn’t enjoy this because of the awful narration. Hated it from first 10 mins and couldn’t return.

Negative rating for narration
