An Orks Novel

Witness a battle royale between feuding ork bosses in a fight for the position of Warboss – and access to a legendary gate that will help the orks conquer the galaxy.

LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE

It’s a raucous and bloody boyz-eye-view of a war for succession between six clans, told with typically orky flair by Mike Brooks.

THE STORY

With only one bastion still standing on the once unconquerable fortress world of Aranua, Warboss Gazrot Goresnappa should be basking in the light of impending victory. Instead, he lies ‘proppa dead’ beneath a decapitated Gargant’s head.

The biggest and baddest bosses from each of the six (no-longer-united) clans step forward to duke it out to become the next warboss – but the ork gods have other plans. A prophecy foretells of a mysterious gate that lies beneath the human city. The one true warboss will be the first to find it, and will use it to turn the galaxy green. Da Genrul of the Blood Axes knows only he is worthy, but it seems Evil Sunz Speedboss Zagnob and Goff Big Boss Mag Dedfist didn’t get the memo. And to add insult to injury, nor did the leader of the grot uprising, the one true prophet of Gork and Mork (or so he claims), Snaggi Littletoof, who seeks to use this opportunity to turn the tide of grot oppression.

Who will the green gods deem worthy?

a great ork story

I have listened to and greatly enjoyed Brutal Kunnin', and after listening to Brooks' Lion novel I craved anything more and picked up Warboss. I've always enjoyed Orks, and Brutal Kunnin' worked great to show more of their interactions and perspective. But it was this book that got me hyped for the prospect of a pure Ork perspective and even has me wanting to start collecting an army of them (which I never thought I would have the desire for). I feel like even compared with Brutal Kunnin' this book has a ton more depth to Ork society and interactions, and shows the variety of personalties that exist within it. I think that piece is what has sparked my imagination to think of possibilities for other Ork characters that run with the ideas shown in this book.

The narration is also amazing. I want to call it voice acting honestly because Harry Myers nails every nuance to each character and brings them to life in a way that emphasizes the variety of personalities in Ork kultur rather than distilling them all into the same general ork-y voice.

I love Orks now

This is the Infinite and Divine of Ork books. I mean, theres only 2 ork books, but you get my point. The narrator absolutely nail the feeling that youre listening to an ork or grot talking, with a wide range of voices for them. This is helped by the excellent writing, from an orks point of view. It shows how an ork things (or doesnt), what motivates them, and why. If this doesnt put the final nail in the coffin of "xenos books arent interesting because theres no human main character" then I dont know what will. If you like orks, get this immediately. Absolute blast.

Narrator kills it, best Ork performance Ive heard in a while

A nice bit of Ork centric storytelling not quite as good as his first go and suffers a bit from too many povs but it’s still well worth reading and I look forward to his next work

A Waaaghing good time

Takes told from the Ork POV are rare, but this one really hits the mark. The combination of humor, brutality and insight into the Ork psyche is absolutely on point.

Great fun!
