From a New York Times bestselling author and George H.W. Bush's former Chief of Staff, pivotal life lessons from a leader that left a mark on people's hearts and souls.

Character Matters is a reminder of the importance of character when defining true leadership. Colleagues, friends, and family will share their personal stories of what they learned from watching and listening to President Bush, including former United States Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice; Secretary of State James A. Baker; stand-up comedian Dana Carvey; "Queen of Country" star Reba McEntire; American columnist for The New York Times Maureen Dowd; American novelist Brad Meltzer; presidential biographer Jon Meacham; former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom John Major; former Prime Minister of Canada Brian Mulroney; Secretary of Defense Robert Gates; the Oak Ridge Boys and best-selling author Christopher Buckley; and of course his grandchildren.

Character Matters will illustrate how George Bush never stopped showing us the way to lead by example.

I really enjoyed this book, what a life! My only retraction word be the narrators very nasally voice, her tone wasn't the greatest either. Thankfully she doesn't speak too often.

Excellent book!

I have always admired George H. W. Bush, primarily (but not solely) for his unwavering class. I thought I knew everything about his exceptional kindness, but this book taught me so much more about this truly fine man. Thank you, Jean Becker, for sharing these inspirational and moving memories. I could listen to them forever.

this side of Abraham Lincoln. If only more leaders held themselves to his high standards.
And did so their whole life as he did.
Starting at 18, President Bush stood up and said, “Here I am, send me.”

The Most Honorable President…

The President's care for others, excellent leadership, and goodness. A great president. Mrs. Becker's excellent work, juggling of people and calendars, working until the job was done. All along not holding back with her words maybe a few times with the president. Love Jean Becker's books and enjoy so much her visits to the Bush 41 Library.

Life was different 30 years ago. It is good to pause and remember what other people were like and what we were like at that time.

This is an excellent compilation that deserves a read/listen.

Looking forward to giving it to some high schoolers so they can experience what shaped many people they think they know.
