Two can play at this game....

Fledging PI Zachariah Davies’ wealthy and eccentric client, toymaker Alton Beacher, wants to hire an investigator who can pose as his boyfriend while figuring out who is behind the recent attempts on his life. And Zach, struggling to save the business his father built, is just desperate enough to set aside his misgivings and take the job.

But it doesn’t take long to realize all is not as it seems—and given that it all seems pretty weird, that’s saying something. The only person Zach can turn to for help is equally struggling, equally desperate, but a whole lot more experienced rival PI Flint Carey.

Former Marine Flint has been waiting for Zach to throw in the towel and sell whatever’s left of the Davies Detective Agency to him. But when the game, inexperienced accountant-turned-shamus turns to him for help, Flint finds himself unwilling—or maybe unable—to say no.

Josh Lanyon is always an instabuy for me, and puzzle for two did not disappoint. I hope this is the start to a series!

I've listened to a lot of Josh Lanyon's work and needed a new read while I wait for the next parts in their series. I had a credit so I figured I'd give it a listen. Man, am I glad I didn't spend money on it!

I had real trouble connecting to the MC in this one. Every decision he made was, just. so. dumb!! I listened to it on a long car ride and found my self screaming at him in intervals for his stupidity. The mystery was a bit lack luster and there were some loose ends that were never really addressed. Idk if this is one of his older works or what. It wasn't an entirely un - listenable experience, but if you're not getting it for free I wouldnt bother.

Meh

I typically latch on to a series vs. standalone novels, so I hesitated on grabbing this title for a while. I shouldn't have hesitated, because this was such a fantastic Josh Lanyon novel. I should have listened to it right when it came out. The narrator was perfect for this title as well. I loved all the characters and the many twists and turns the story had. If you like Josh Lanyon novels, a murder mystery with a touch of comedy and romance peppered in, this one's for you. The banter between the two main characters was so well written. I would give it 6 stars if I could!

This was fantastic!

This book was another compelling romantic mystery from Josh Lanyon. I miss the longer series by Lanyon, but this book was an entertaining diversion from reality. The mystery, which was the focus of the story, was engaging, and the romance added a dash of tension to the story.

James Woodrich's voice was pleasant, and the narration was good, but some parts felt a bit choppy. At times, he sounded like he was reading from a script that he hadn't rehearsed quite well enough.

Good story. Good narration.
