Acerca de esta escucha

Original cast members from the beloved TV series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, reunite for an all-new adventure about connections that never die—even if you bury them.

A decade has passed since the epic final battle that concluded Buffy the Vampire Slayer (TV). The game-changing spell that gave power to all potential Slayers persists. With new Slayers constantly emerging, things are looking grim for the bad guys. Rebellious vampire Spike (James Marsters) is working undercover in Los Angeles with his old pal Clem (James Charles Leary) when he meets feisty, rookie Slayer, Indira (Laya DeLeon Hayes), who wants Spike to be her mentor. Stakes intensify as Cordelia Chase (Charisma Carpenter) emerges from an alternate reality where she alone is the Slayer, and Buffy Summers doesn’t exist. Cordelia enlists Spike’s help with a classic big bad terrorizing her world…his ex, Drusilla (Juliet Landau). Giles (Anthony Head), Anya (Emma Caulfield Ford), Jonathan (Danny Strong), and Tara (Amber Benson) also return, but through the years and the vastness of the multiverse, not everyone is who they used to be…

Slayers: A Buffyverse Story is written and directed by Amber Benson and Chris Golden, and co-directed by Kc Wayland.

Not for the uninitiated, great for us fans

“The Big Bad is back!”
Spike alone was worth the price of admission. The quips, the accent, the risk that the old Spike will come out to play… this had all the familiar feels plus a new spin as Spike delivers intros Sam Spade style to set the scenes. The first two hours was a pinball game of callbacks and connections, mostly from the Buffy series and a tad from the Angel series. I suspect listeners new to the Buffy-verse will find this confusing, particularly since the plot here involved variations of the characters from two different worlds.

“Suck it!”
No one from the original Scooby gang appeared here, but the Scooby supporting characters stepped up to fill their shoes pretty well. I got a kick out of Clem and his bromance with Spike. I especially enjoyed seeing Cordelia as a woman of power and substance after seeing her shelved in Angel.

“Bloody Hell, baby Slayer, stop kicking people in the face!”
As for new characters there’s really just Indira, who sounded a lot like Dawn, just with Slayer punch.
I was a little disappointed at the lack of new blood, especially the lack of colorful, scene chewing villains. Drusilla was a breath of undead air, but we’ve seen her level of batty lots before. We’ve also seen Tara as the used witch/romantic interest before (although admittedly the number of FF flirtations was new, in a kind of punch drunk ‘is everyone in this alternate universe gay?’ kind of way).

“Cross my heart and hope … to live forever.”
The scripted audio format using the original actors to narrate helped me to follow along, but without visuals this book relied on a lot of shouty, overacted ‘help, I’m meltinnnnggg!’ scenes. All those grunts and screams didn’t compare to seeing a staked vamp turn to dust on the tube. In fact, the second half started to drag for me, and seemed to be mostly fight-sound effects and speeches. Yeah, there was a lot of speechifying, by Cordelia about it sucking to be a lone Slayer, by Anya and Anyanka on being a demon,
by Tara on her plight, and even by Drusilla on being a vampire. I kept hoping for Buffy or Faith to pop in with a ‘less talking, more staking’ quip. Sadly, no one shoves anyone off their soapbox.

I’m still glad I listened. I would be interested in a book 2, although for the next one I might hold out for a sale and hope for improvement on the ratio of blah blah blah to stabby stabby, quippy quippy goodness.

THE NOSTALGIA! Love love love!

I just loved this from start to finish! Every character sounds exactly the same - it’s unreal! Can’t wait for more!

Just Amazing.

Like picking up again with old friends. Cordelia, Tara and Anya getting happier endings (even if it’s in another universe.)

Pleasantly Surprised!

Having been a huge fan of the show I was hesitant to give this book a try due to the alternate universe concept. I was concerned it would take away from the original story and characters. I am delighted to share I was wrong. It totally worked! I really enjoyed the story, the performance, being reacquainted with beloved characters and being introduced to alternate reality versions of some of those characters. I very much enjoyed it and am hopeful for more in the future. If you are a fan of the series I highly recommend it.

Buffyverse Rules

It was nice to hear everyone. An engaging alternate universe story. To the complainers; it doesn’t have to be ‘perfect.’ Buffy wasn’t perfect.
This is exactly what it should be. Interesting, entertaining and not too heavy on nostalgia.
I didn’t realize how much I missed everyone until listening to this.
Lots of potential stories in either verse.
“Do it again! Do it again!” To quote Drusilla from back in the day.

Great

I’m glad Amber gave Charisma a way back into the Buffyverse. The story was pretty good. Cordelia is great as a slayer. We need a spin-off Cordelia the Vampire Slayer!

A fun romp, even if a bit toothless.

I enjoyed the tail by the end. The call backs worked without over shinning this new spin.

The Story has a slow start. It picks up about half way thru and held my attention till the end.
The threat is a bit weak. The stakes come off as lacking.
I understand the woke girl power take. I would have liked a slayer a little darker, a little more like the alt Buffy from Doppelganger.
The style took time for me to get the feel of the writing. I would have liked a little more of a narration by Spike than the broadcast radio style they gave us. It's just a different take, that took a while to grasp.

overall it was a fun return to the world. The cast is enjoyable.
I hope for more heat in the next adventure with Cordie. A sweaty, sticky time with more danger is what this book needs. ThesebPlayers need to get some sexy time. Say what you want about Buffy... the girl got hers and it added the feels for the show. This story falls behind to much because there's no big heat.
A must for any Buffy fan. 3.5/5.
