Dawn of fire overarching plot meh

overall for the story as a whole it's kind of okay it happened whatever when more of the dawn of fire books are out it's probably one you could outright skip cuz it doesn't seem to do much other than to say oh hey this one guy without doing spoilers got a thing and none of the other parts of the book really matter at all so yeah

The entire book could have been summarized in a single paragraph in the next book saying oh hey Tensbris and Yang, got The final piece of that ancient cursed sword they've been assembling.
everything else in this book didn't matter at all only thing it does is show how easily corruption can set in on an imperial vessel which is kind of okay we know that already happens but this is just my opinion of it

Good 40k Book

I was skeptical at first due to the poor reviews. But, In my opinion, this book not strongly pushing forward the plot of the dawn of fire series is not a weak point. It gave backstory to events happening within the timeline. I think this book was well written and provided insight into the imperial navy. Although if you are listening with intent in progressing the plot you can skip. Overall it was a good book.

Horror mystery

Most of the time when a Warhammer book try’s to do a horror type mystery it falls a little short, this book goes far beyond expectations in that regard.

The book is very good but the series as a whole is getting frustrating

I like horror and I'm a chaos fan boy, so I really enjoyed the story itself. If you go into it wanting to listen to a cool horror story with Event Horizon vibes then you will enjoy this book. That being said, the dawn of fire series as a whole is just frustrating. The Horus Heresy series has books that are barely connected aside from the time period and setting but I feel like the difference here is that we were able to actually grow attached to the characters knowing most would play a part in the siege and we wanted to know how they would get there. It's not the same feeling with Dawn of Fire. There aren't that many characters that get a chance to make a lasting impression. It just seems too disjointed and I'm not as interested in the end goal as I should be.

Good book though.

Would've been better as a standalone story

This book offers a lot of insight into the complexities and lore of the Imperial Navy. Too bad it had to be attached to an overarching series that only factors in at the last 4th of the story. Seriously, GW, do better next time with the story. Voice acting was great. Really like the effects that were implemented to convey warp scsriness and vox communication. Just wish the voice actor could put more terror into his voice given that this book is basically a horror story.
