She can't remember. He can't forget. How did Lauren's number one nemesis, Jonah, become her adoring boyfriend? Can Jonah convince Lauren to remember why she wanted to stay? Love is complicated in this cozy and wholesome, small-town amnesia romance with a big-city girl and her resort co-worker. Perfect for fans of The Vow and Debbie Macomber.

When Lauren Wentworth wakes up in the hospital after falling from a ladder, she has more questions than answers. Way more. She knows where she is--the wilds of New Hampshire. But she's apparently lost the last four months of her life. Is she really contemplating forfeiting her big-city dream job for a position at a rustic resort? And how did her number one nemesis become her adoring boyfriend?

Jonah Landry is crushed to learn Lauren has forgotten their entire summer together. Terrified of losing her for good, he determines to help her remember their deep connection as she finishes her obligation to the resort. But soon it becomes apparent Lauren doesn't want to remember falling in love with him or rethinking the entire course of her career. She wants to pretend the summer never happened and move on with her life. Without him.

As Lauren falls back into the steady routines of resort work with Jonah, she's relieved her memories haven't returned and remains resolute about her big-city future. But as autumn leads into winter, she begins to see glimpses of the Jonah she's forgotten. Will she be able to resist the steady love of this patient man? Or is her heart destined for its own freefall?

If you are moved by stories of hope, second chances, and finding yourself again in someone else's eyes, let Before We Were Us carry you away. This friction-to-romance love story features the most steadfast of heroes, allowing you to lose yourself in Jonah and Lauren's world. Pick up a copy and see if love, even when forgotten, can surprise you into believing again.

I’m usually fairly critical of fictional romance books, but this one I found very interesting. I live in the state of New Hampshire where this story is based out of. While some details of the story aren’t totally accurate about the state, such as the description of Colebrook, I realize the author wrote it in a way to make it more interesting than would have otherwise been the case. Other descriptions, such as Flume Gorge, are very accurate and the author obviously researched the book very well. Overall probably the best romance book I’ve read.

Really interesting book.

Oh, man. I feel like such a sap. I binge-listened to this and loved every moment. I love the premise- the amnesia. Throw in the best epilogue ever and you've got a win! I loved this story! the performance is excellent!

I liked the narrator and that’s important. Her performance strategy delivered the scenes well! The writer has had my attention for years

The story idea

Excellent story / not an ‘edge of your seat’ type book but a mellow, laid-back, feel good story what’s a few twists and turns. I’ve loved all of Denise Hunter’s books and this one is no different. Just goes to show that a wonderful read does NOT have to have foul language and abundant sex. It CAN BE just a beautiful story!

Beautiful backdrop for story!

I loved the past and present story line. I also loved the fact that there weren't any unrealistic actions within the story (other that a quick proposal). also love the narrator..and I'm hard to please.

believable story line
