Publisher's summary

Crocodiles are born man-eaters.

Given the opportunity, it is the one big predator that will go for you every single time.

Two people have been killed inside a month, and now a monster croc has been captured – a hybrid – grown huge with 'hybrid-vigor' – and in the Everglades, a new and deadly invasive species – the most aggressive predator on the planet.

Authorities are baffled – where did it come from? And what else might be lurking out on the water?

But Abigail O'Neil knows.

After seventeen years, Abigail has come home – an old cabin in the deepest swamp – where all the darkest secrets lie – where monsters breed.

But even in the swamp, the most cold-blooded monsters are always human.

And so is the most dangerous prey

On the pursuit of a cold blooded predator..

Suspense and treachery lies dormant in the swamps, and terrible reptiles aren't all that threaten our protagonists..

This is a decent thriller with few interesting, but mostly forgettable characters. I liked that I got to learn a few bits about freshwater crocodiles and salties. The narration suffers from excessive entonation, overpronunciation and 'theatrical showmanship' instead of sounding normal and realistic, but speeding it up made that less noticeable, albeit still intolerable.

Mixed bag

I heard “monster crocodile” and was sold. This book was a lot slower paced than I’d expected, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Lots of time was spent establishing the context, rather than rushing straight into the action, which I can appreciate.

The way women were written and talked about bothered me. It kept taking me out of the story.
However, the plot is interesting and narration is excellent.

Hybrid Vigor

This was a fun monster movie type book. Some 'bloke' in the Everglades is messing with Crocdile and Alligator hybrids. Not everyone dies.lol Narrator Steven Conner was good, but his accents could be improved.I was given this book free for an honest review.

Crocs

Hybrid Vigor by John Lee Schneider is a great build up to the exciting thrill ride that is his other book Gator Glades. Honestly I’m about to read it again just to carry on this story. While many have said it does not have the action of the second one as well as me reading the second one first when I first started reading Schneider’s books I think it is great and really builds up the story. It he characters are fun and as always Abagail is by far the most interesting of the group. There is some action in this once Caesar shows up. I def recommend reading this one first then follow up with Gator Glades.

nothing I would rush out to buy

the story was ok, the narration was ok. some times the story sounded like a zoo lecture. when the narrator would switch into some of the characters his voice went somewhat sing songy. nothing so bad that I couldn't finish the book and I learned some stuff.

Nature vs. Nurture

Hybrid Vigor is a very intense and interesting story that involves nature vs. nurture. The swamps are being overloaded with invasive species, and now some are fighting back in a deadly war. Many of the crocodillian species are crossbreeding, producing offspring that are bigger, faster, and smarter than their parents. The story starts off with fascinating facts about the ecosystem of the Everglades, but then it starts to taper off into past relationships, etc.
The past comes back to cause problems with the present in the form of a woman named Abigail. I won't give any spoilers, but I will say she has a bloody debt to settle and nothing, and nobody will stop her. I truly wished that the book would have concentrated more on the creatures because there is so much further this storyline could have gone. The swamp never gives up all of her secrets or her children. Steve Connor did a phenomenal job narrating this intense story bringing forth the story making it realistic and believable. I do recommend this book because it is a fascinating story and will leave you in awe of all the twists and turns that come to the forefront.
I received this book for free upon my request. This is my honest and unbiased review that is based strictly on my opinion that I am voluntarily leaving here freely.

Wish it was longer

I really like the setting and there's an interesting story here. It can do with some padding to really flesh out the characters though. It feels like it just started and then it was over.
