Fr. Gabriele Amorth (1925–2016) is widely known for his decades of service as the official exorcist of Rome. Yet before that, he was a Mariologist—a biblical scholar and theologian deeply devoted to the Mother of God. In The Life of Mary of Nazareth, one of five Marian works he authored, Fr. Amorth retraces the earthly life of the Virgin Mary through Scripture and Tradition.

Divided into thirty-one chapters — one for each day of the month — this book invites readers to follow Mary step by step through the Gospel narrative. Drawing especially from Matthew and Luke, Fr. Amorth meditates on the Annunciation, the Visitation, the Nativity, the Presentation, the Flight into Egypt, and the hidden years in Nazareth. He reflects on the “Hour” foreshadowed at Cana, Mary’s fidelity beneath the Cross, and her silent hope on Holy Saturday — the only disciple who fully trusted in the Resurrection to come.

Beyond the Gospel accounts, Fr. Amorth explores Mary’s ancient titles — New Eve, Ever-Virgin, Mother of God (Theotokos), All-Holy — and carefully explains the Marian dogmas of the Immaculate Conception and the Assumption. He also addresses living devotion: the Rosary, consecration, Marian feasts, and the spiritual meaning of Holy Saturday.

Each chapter concludes with brief catechetical reflections, making this book ideal for daily meditation, personal study, or group discussion. Written in clear and accessible language, it is both theologically rich and pastorally warm.

Though centered on Mary, Fr. Amorth constantly reminds the reader that authentic Marian devotion always leads to deeper love of Christ.

Originally published in Italian as Il Vangelo di Maria, this work reveals Fr. Amorth not only as an exorcist, but as a teacher of Scripture and a guide in the school of the Mother of God.
