49. Turning your Mess into Your Message: TEDx Speaker & Wellness Entrepreneur Jamie Hess on Addiction, Overcoming Shame, and How Gratitude Saved Her Life

  • Summary

  • Struggles and success often dance hand in hand.

Jamie Hess grew up in New York City as the daughter of GMA Host, Joan Lunden. A tenacious go-getter from a young age, Jamie was gifted, precocious, and ahead of the curve. She grew up fast - and she found herself soaring up the ladder of Corporate PR earlier than most. But she was curbing the growing pains of growing up in the public eye with a drug addiction that she kept secret - until she couldn't any longer.

After the road to recovery from drug and alcohol abuse, Jamie turned her life around and discovered fitness, making it her mission to create community and help others see the beauty in a healthy lifestyle. She amassed thousands of followers with a zest for her new passion, until she found herself with another addiction hidden in sheep's clothing. This time, it was an eating disorder.

Years after recovery from these eras - today, Jamie is a wellness entrepreneur, speaker, mother, wife, and podcaster whose work has been featured on the Dr. Oz Show, The View, and Good Morning America.

On this episode, Jamie shares her story of resilience and accountability, and how her intimate experience with darkness became the groundwork for the woman she is today.

Each battle she overcame wove her life tapestry with the humility and infectious authenticity that allows her to teach the lessons that she had to learn.

She is a woman who channels her past into a beacon for those seeking light.
