A shield maiden fights to break the shackles of prophecy—and to overcome the betrayal of the man who broke her heart—in this searing conclusion to the Norse-inspired fantasy romance duology that began with the bestselling A Fate Inked in Blood.

The secret of her divine heritage revealed, Freya finds herself on a path that will see thousands of lives lost to the magic in her blood. Desperate to avoid this dark fate, she risks an alliance with Skaland’s greatest enemy to seek answers from the seer who foretold her future—the same seer who sent Bjorn to kill her.

While Freya still seethes with rage over Bjorn’s betrayal, the blood oaths that bind her demand that she keep him close as she hunts for a way to avert the looming war. Her magic draws her to the front lines of an old enmity, embroiling her with Nordeland’s Unfated—children of the gods who serve the king she was raised to fear. The same king who, unlike Bjorn, is now willing to fight at her back. For despite the desire that burns hot between Bjorn and Freya, his growing distrust of her chosen path threatens to drag them further apart.

As war approaches, gods and mortals must choose their weapons. Yet the fiercest battle will be the one Freya wages within herself. With the magic of two goddesses burning in her veins, she must weave the threads of destiny to decide her own fate: Will she be the shield that protects her people or the curse that destroys them?

This story is a phenomenal creation using Norse mythology. The ending of this story with this book leaves you a feeling of completion but also allows the mind to wonder about what could come next. The narrators did a fantastic job of pulling you directly into the world in which Freya and Bjorn inhabit. But this would not have been possible without Danielle L Jensen creating a fantasticly woven story from start to finish!

I wasn’t sure if this would be the last book or if it was a trilogy. I ended up re listening to book 1 because I couldn’t remember everyone’s name. The plot twists were amazing. Wrapped to the story nicely. Loved it.

Something happened with their editing. There are places where the voice doesn’t match in the middle of the chapter or near the end of a chapter that sounded like a bad voice over.

Otherwise the story was ok. I feel it was a bit rushed. I liked book 1 better.

Overall I have nothing bad to say. This series and world was well created and I enjoyed the pace tremendously. Banter was good. And the way the story evolved wasn’t predictable but also made sense. Danielle Jensen is a great author.

Very well done. Great conclusion!

I can't remember what I rated on the first book of this series but the second one seemed much better than the first imo. I at least found myself much more engaged during this one. I really enjoyed the book, although the ending felt a bit rushed and kinda all over the place a bit. overall, it was good!
