About this listen

Two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Bob Woodward tells the revelatory, behind-the-scenes story of three wars—Ukraine, the Middle East and the struggle for the American Presidency.

War is an intimate and sweeping account of one of the most tumultuous periods in presidential politics and American history.

We see President Joe Biden and his top advisers in tense conversations with Russian president Vladimir Putin, Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky. We also see Donald Trump, conducting a shadow presidency and seeking to regain political power.

With unrivaled, inside-the-room reporting, Woodward shows President Biden’s approach to managing the war in Ukraine, the most significant land war in Europe since World War II, and his tortured path to contain the bloody Middle East conflict between Israel and the terrorist group Hamas.

Woodward reveals the extraordinary complexity and consequence of wartime back-channel diplomacy and decision-making to deter the use of nuclear weapons and a rapid slide into World War III.

The raw cage-fight of politics accelerates as Americans prepare to vote in 2024, starting between President Biden and Trump, and ending with the unexpected elevation of Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee for president.

War provides an unvarnished examination of the vice president as she tries to embrace the Biden legacy and policies while beginning to chart a path of her own as a presidential candidate.

Woodward’s reporting once again sets the standard for journalism at its most authoritative and illuminating.

A perfect book particularly for now

Unbiased facts and events linked together to tell a comprehensive narrative of a period in the US history where many cross roads intersected with much more to come.

I reached the part about Yahya Sinwar just after reading in the NYT that his death was confirmed. A realistic reading experience I have ever had.

An Attention grabbing deep dive on the last four years.

Bob Woodward's deep dive through the last 4 years of the Biden administration and the much needed context surrounding this period our history was beyond compelling and immensely educating.

So much has transpired in the last 4 years it is difficult to stitch it all together in a way that forms a compelling focused narrative, War has been that guide for me.

Impeccable research, writing and narration

This audiobook was like listening to a political thriller, except that all the events were ripped straight from the headlines and Woodward's interviews. One of my favorites so far this year!

Nice review of the events from the past few years.

I liked having a chronological review of the past years really beginning in the Obama presidency.

the ghastly details

I'm constantly surprised that we pin blame on any one thing for complicated things. This book will help those who attempt to do such things to understand that they can stop

The truth, simply conveyed.

An excellent listen (audiobook)
Clear, concise reporting.
If only people would educate themselves to hear facts. The detail is outstanding and scary at the same time.

In the room where it happens

Woodruff is amazing his access and ability to string it all together in a discernible narrative is such a gift to students of American history, especially when that history is still very much in the present tense. Wow! If every American voter would take the time to read this book I’d feel so much better about the choice they will make on Nov 5. At least it will be an informed choice. Informed by fact, truth and I hope reason.
