excellent story

the love between these 2, is so extreme. you can feel it!! I love this female narrator, she is very different from others. I loved her!

The plot is intense. Spice is hotter than hot. The Characters relationship is a roller coaster that consumes you.

Great story/romance

Loved the book and can’t wait to read the next one to continue the romance with a little bad

Lev & Brooke (Spoilers)

If this first book is any indication, this is an excellent duet. Lev is a cunning and emotionally detached Pakhan, but he deceptively uses & seduces Brooke to see if she knows anything about her Ex’s whereabouts, as the Ex tried blackmailing Lev w/ video. After their steamy night, Brooke returns home & weeks pass until she wakes one night to realize someone is in her home. Turns out it’s the Ex. She confronts him & as he’s looking for items to sell for money, they argue and he chokes her. Suddenly Lev bursts in and saves her - to her surprise. Once she realizes his deception, her anger flares, as does her hurt at being used.
The Ex doesn’t have the flash drive, saying it’s in a locker in Oregon, and the key is in Houston with his grandmother, who has orders to send it to the police if anything happens to him.
Lev, not missing a beat, tells the Ex, he has 1 week to get the drive and as an assurance, he’s taking Brooke as collateral.
So, this detail bothered me bcz the story was so well written, it was obvious the Ex would not return to save her. Lev, predicted this, however Brooke did not. This allows Lev to manipulate Brooke into agreeing to an arranged marriage. She keeps referring to him kidnapping her, and he reminding her she came of her own choice. Although the trope is a common one in these dark mafia books, the character development is done well enough that it’s not boring - at all.

So, as their arrangement evolves, and Lev is such a d!ck with his words, Brooke does manage to irk him a time or 2, but ultimately they come to a truce. I admit, I had to put the book down a few times bcz Lev pissed me off so badly, so mind your triggers when reading.

The story has the usual suspects, 2 uncles, 1 bad and the other not as bad. A rival peon trying to make waves, etc.
it all comes to a head when the rival kidnaps Brooke from where she was shopping and beats her & strings her up. It was horrible, but superficial. Lev & Igor (his driver) find her & get an ambulance. At the hospital they find out she’s pregnant and it’s Lev’s baby.
Leaving her for overnight observation, Lev heads out to look for the rival. As he’s in the parking lot he gets a call from Brooke asking if she can leave the hospital. he looks up & sees her in the window before assuring her he will be back the next day., but that she’s safest there. As he nears his car, it explodes while Brooke looks on in horror. It ends with Lev looking at Brooke in the window.

I’m not usually a fan of cliffhangers, but this book does not drag on, so I was fine with it. Get the series if you enjoy this genera, you won’t be disappointed. Lastly, I purchased the audio version, and am glad I do. The narration was very well done.
