Welcome to North Falls. A small town where everyone knows everyone. But nobody knows the truth.

Emmy Clifton has lived here all her life. She thinks she knows her neighbours. She's wrong.

She thinks it’s just another hot summer night: a night like any other. She's wrong.

When her best friend's daughter asks for help, she thinks it’s just some teenage drama. She thinks it can wait. She’s never been more wrong in her life.

As the town ignites in the wake of the girl's disappearance, Emmy throws herself into the search. But then she realises: You never really know a town until you know its secrets.

Is Emmy ready for the truth?

Ever since I discovered the Grant County series when I was a teen, I have been obsessed with Karin Slaughter's books. She has an absolute unique style of writing as well as crafting her characters and story plots.
It is not a secret that I like my crime novels gritty and real, but apart from this usual Slaughter ingredient, what I find most enthralling about her works are the characters she constructs; their backstories, their motivations, their thought processes and most of all their human flaws. No other author makes me feel this connected to fictional characters; Slaughter paints a picture of often deeply flawed people, that strive to do a little good in the world, but often end up stumbling along the way.
The plot is good, though not as police procedural and not as focused on the detective aspect as for her Will Trent series. However, I absolutely look forward to more amazing books in this new series!

Kathleen Early is amazing as always, so I beyond pleased that she again is along for the ride.

As exceptionally imersive as KS's other work
