INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER!

“Madcap fun, with an entertaining new cast of characters and Osman’s trademark wit. Delightful!”Shari Lapena

From the #1 bestselling author of The Thursday Murder Club Series

A brand new mystery. An iconic new detective duo. And a thrilling new murder to solve . . .

Steve Wheeler is enjoying retired life. He still does the odd bit of investigation work, but he prefers his familiar routines: the pub quiz, his favorite bench, his cat waiting for him at home. His days of adventure are over. Adrenaline is daughter-in-law Amy’s job now.

Amy Wheeler thinks adrenaline is good for the soul. Working in private security, every day is dangerous. She’s currently on a remote island protecting mega-bestselling author Rosie D’Antonio, until a dead body and a bag of money mean trouble in paradise. So she sends an SOS to the only person she trusts . . .

As a thrilling race around the world begins, can Amy and Steve outrun and outsmart a killer?

Solving murders. It’s a family business.

Critic reviews

“Richard Osman has a whole new cast of characters for you to adore. . . a fiendish mystery and rollicking adventure suffused with warmth and wit.”—Washington Post

“[Osman] introduces a beguiling new team of sleuths . . . and sends this crew on a globe-spanning investigation, enlivening his tale with dry wit, crisp dialogue, sharply drawn characters and a pinch or three of sentiment.”—Wall Street Journal

“Madcap fun, with an entertaining new cast of characters and Osman’s trademark wit. Delightful!”Shari Lapena, New York Times bestselling author of The Couple Next Door

Editorial Review

A retired detective, a kick-ass bodyguard, and a cat named Trouble
I always feel a dash of anxiety when one of my favorite authors kicks off something totally new, but the fantastic new series starter from Richard Osman does not disappoint. There are some familiar tropes at play: retiree Steve Wheeler dabbling in investigatory work, a diverse cast of characters who come together over pints and trivia. But he ups the ante with Steve's daughter-in-law Amy, a truly hardcore veteran-turned-bodyguard who works for an elite protection contractor. And the murders these two find themselves needing to solve are epic and global in scale. In true Osman form, the dialogue is punchy, fast-paced, and smart, making this listen completely impossible to put down thanks to Nicola Walker's adroit and vibrant narration. — Emily C., Audible Editor

As always it’s the characters for me

The mystery is good but the characters are better. Richard Osman does such a good job of making sure the characters in his story are so much more than their jobs: Assassin, Author, PI, Bodyguard. They are all people first and that’s what makes his books so enjoyable

Fun, if implausible, characters

Like Osmon’s other books, it is light. A complex and far fetched plot, but fun. The audiobook’s biggest weakness is the narration. The same voices are used for 30 and 70 year olds. And this makes it harder to determine who is speaking.

Murder for miles and miles.

Absolutely Brilliant! It started a smidge slow, I first thought, but then I realized I was just getting to know my characters, which was so important, and then the story took to the air and away we went . So creatively written, incredible and unique characters that makes you feel like you have new forever friends. I thought it might be a long book, but the next thing I knew, i was down to the last chapters and I didn’t want it to end. It is witty writing that brought so much joy and yet tugged so deeply on my heart strings. I am now already counting down the days until I can be back together with my new best friends on another grand adventure. Richard Osman is an incredibly fabulous writer, who never lets me down. He is just straight out brilliant! And now I must wait, lol…………….

Confusing list of characters , entertaining story

I was expecting a story the quality of the Murder Club books and this isn’t it. While the tale is entertaining there are way too many characters to keep track of and I never knew who was who. VERY CONFUSING! Narration was fantastic!

Did not disappoint in some ways even better than Thursday murder books.

It was Funny clever and human. And hard to solve, at least it was for me.

Another Triumph for Richard Osman

Absolutely loved everything about this book. The characters were well developed and interesting. It kept me completely enthralled from the beginning to the end. No swearing (thank you so much). Nicola Walker is the perfect person to narrate this story and is fantastic. I wish Richard Osman would quit doing his t.v. shows and write full time. Couldn’t get enough. Five stars - you don’t even need to think about it.
