"A triumphant story in which flawed characters face real choices and must rely on a real God to save them."—MESU ANDREWS, bestselling and award-winning author
Gavriel, a soldier in the elite company of Yonatan—son of King Saul—dreams of forging his destiny through crafting weapons with his own hands. Despite earning his place among Israel's finest, he is haunted by a dark past that no distraction can dispel. When his reckless behavior crosses a line, Yonatan gives him one last mission to prove his worth: help persuade a distant Kenite tribe to sever their ties with the Amalekites.
Zahava, a gifted goldsmith hidden behind her father's legacy, lives in the shadows due to her physical affliction. Her unmatched and unrecognized talent is a closely guarded secret within her family. Disheartened by a future that seems unattainable, she resigns herself to a life of obscurity. However, when Gavriel arrives in her village, they're tangled together in ways neither could have imagined. As they navigate unforeseen dangers and enemy threats, Gavriel must confront his past and either bend his knee to the One True King or lose the woman he loves forever.

Beautifully written!

The storyline has twists and turns, and yet the redemption arc of characters is believable. Also the voice actors have pleasant cadences, making it enjoyable to listen to the book, to get lost in the story.
Another Great book from Connilyn Cossette!

Some narration (performance) adds much to the story; these were just OK.
At points when the story is weak, and the audio performance is weak, it grates.
However, for long stretches, the narration fades into the background, and the story leads you on.
The stories have enough unexpected plot twists to keep the reader engaged.
I do think a New Testament-driven relationship with the heavenly Father is being projected back into these Old Testament era stories. As I read the Old Testament, there are infrequent love-driven relationships between believers and Yahweh, but in each of these stories, there are multiple people touched by the spirit of God, resulting in a deep, trusting relationship.
As New Testament believers, I think we are unaware of how drastically different our relationship with God is after Jesus died and the Holy Spirit was poured out, revealing the Spirit of Adoption, "Abba Father".
Some themes:
God is in control, and when we don't understand what He is doing, we choose to trust Him.
Our blame is our own, but our actions don't determine outcomes for others; they make their own choices.
All that being said, I am looking forward to the next in the series. Each has been similar but a significantly different story and exploration of a different part of life in that era.
Good story, looking forward to the next one.
