Few things shape a life more profoundly than the lessons of a father.

William “Bill” Burgess was a larger-than-life personality. This was displayed on football fields across the Southeast, first as a player at Auburn University and later as a championship-winning coach at the high school and collegiate levels. But he was also a father.

His son, New York Times best-selling author and nationally syndicated radio host Rick Burgess, had a front-row seat to this legendary man who had a way with words like few others. Through rich storytelling, Rick Burgess captures his father's many colorful sayings and stories, taking them a step further by cleverly and clearly communicating the spiritual truths behind each one.

“Men Don't Run In the Rain” is a timeless reflection on the kind of man they simply don't make anymore.

First and foremost, when an author reads the book for audible there is an authenticity more appreciated than words can express. THaNKYou!!! Mr. Burgess for taking the time to bring this book to ‘life’. I feel like I know Coach Burgess and would have been a better person had I grown up around him.
The alignment of Coach’s life and Biblical knowledge are Brilliant!!! for men and women. I bought several copies of this book for the next generation in our family. My husband and I have 3 grown daughters and have one son-in-love. He’s definitely getting a copy mostly b/c he is ‘daddy’ to our 3 g’daughters. He has not read other books I’ve given him, tho’ this one I will be pushing. Btw he was a soccer player from age 6 to 21. He tells me he loves the LORD so I’m still hopeful. Another 2 young men are nephews, one on my side and one on my husband’s side. Both of them have sons and played football. I know they will appreciate hearing about coach.
This audible will also be suggested to many of my friends and family. We all need to lift others in many encouraging ways as possible.
Lastly, I cried again hearing about Bronner. I listened to Sherri’s book before this one, and I’ve known the story for years. I also cried hearing about your experience loving your dad during his years w/alzheimer’s. It’s a wicked opponent, and I can completely relate as my ‘bonus’ dad is now living through it as well.
My sister and I were not raised by our ‘dad’ tho’ he came into our lives when we were
19 & 20, in need of a godly-man example.
He remains here at 87 and continues to be worthy or love, respect and honor. I believe Coach & he would have been friends.

This books was great. I took away some things I can improve as a father. I didn’t have a dad like this but I can use a lot of the lessons and stories in this book in my life to be a better dad and godly man.

A well written, well read book about a man’s man who lived his life in reverence for our Savior, Jesus Christ, his family, and every young man that had the privilege to play for Coach Bill Burgess. This book will change your life, or put it right back in line with your calling that God has on your life.
Coach, thank you for the lessons you left with us through the voice of your amazing son Rick Burgess!

As I listened I was thinking about my Dad that passed 1year ago this week and a dear friend came to mind, I paused the book and prayed for him and sent him this link, as I was praying I got a text from his wife that my friends dad had passed away this morning. Finishing the book was a great reminder of the frailty of this life and the hope we have to come. Thank you

Before listening to this book, I had never heard of the great coach Burgess. Just don’t follow football that closely. Now I’m so glad I got to know a bit about the man through the eyes of his son. Book is a wonderful combination of great stories, life lessons and spiritual insights. Thank you for a wonderful read.
