Velina has escaped the workhouse on the hunt for one thing: the witch who can grant her wish to live a normal life. Born with silver hair and noticeably pointy ears, she's passed from workhouse to workhouse since she can remember—shunned for her mysterious heritage.

But the witch’s cottage she finds at the edge of the wood is abandoned, and as soon as she starts making herself at home, someone else comes calling: a noble with a wish of his own. With the promise of his coin, she agrees to help him when she starts noticing something strange about the cottage.

Velina must find a way to help the noble, and others who come calling—but can she help herself?

A cozy fantasy standalone about finding your purpose; perfect for fans of Legends and Lattes and Howl's Moving Castle.

I really enjoyed this. It was fun and quick. As a series, it wrapped everything up like a stand alone and I appreciate that in an unfinished series. ***slight spoiler***It was cozy with no bad happenings.

Fun and cozy

I quickly discovered the only time I have for reading right now is when I’m driving to and from work, but I have trouble keeping track of all the complicated elements of my beloved epic fantasies when I’m listening to an audiobook. On a whim, I decided to try something different.

Liz Delton’s The Witch at the Edge of the Wood turned out to be the perfect answer. Velina, a young woman whose unusual appearance has resulted in a miserable life trapped in workhouses, captivates you from the start with her endearing kindness and curiosity. When she flees to the woods searching for a witch to help her build a better life, what she finds instead is an abandoned cottage and a world of possibilities if she’s bold and clever enough to embrace them.

With a charming cast of characters including young Will with his simple dreams, helpful Fiona, and naturally, a cat, it’s hard not to love this book. The narrator also had the perfect voice to complement this sweet fairytale-like story. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute I spent listening.

Delightful Cozy Fantasy Escape
