The most powerful warlock in the world, Adair Finch, has drawn the ire of a sociopathic wizard.

While building up his PI agency, Finch’s sister-in-law, Jessica, comes to him with a major problem. She cheated the wizard, Maldonado, an infamous demonologist known for his crime dealings, and now he wants Jessica dead.

Determined to help Jessica, as well as a few others around town, all within a single 24-hour period, Finch must make a new pact with a creature that can defeat Maldonado’s infernal magic. Unfortunately, very few creatures can do that, and all of them want something drastic in return.

Luckily, Finch has made some new allies—a werewolf, a YouTube star, a budding witch, a vampire attorney, and even a reluctant duergar. With their help, finding Maldonado and ending his criminal operations doesn’t seem as impossible as before.

But navigating the supernatural world isn’t as easy as Finch remembers, and the monster who killed his brother is lurking just around the corner…

I loved, loved the latest installment of this magical detective series with a side of buddy comedy. It had a layered storyline, witty dialogue, an intriguing problem to solve, surprising plot twists, and suspense. I was equally desperate to read it all at once to solve Jessie’s dilemma and also to savor it and make it last. Adair Finch is the most powerful warlock in the world and one of the best private investigators for hire. When his brother died, he retired from PI work and stopped living his life but he’s recently joined the world again including opening a new detective agency. He is visited by his sister-in-law, Jessie, who he has not seen in the decade since his brother’s death. She is a witch that is now bound with a demon, has government agents looking for her, and she needs Adair’s help. The interactions and juxtaposition between grumpy put upon Adair, vibrant and innocent Bree, nerdy and cautious Liam, and angry protective Enzo was what really made this story so very good. The character arc for all of them was wonderful despite the story being about poor choices and painful pasts. I cannot say enough about how much I loved this story, these characters and this series. I need more of these characters in my life.

Annie Ellicott, Jeff Hays, Justin Thomas James, Ryan H. Reid, and Gary Furlong did a phenomenal job narrating the story and characters into life with enough change of inflection, tone and cadence to voice multiple characters quite convincingly. Reading the story was great but listening to it raised the enjoyment to a whole new level. I love Soundbooth Theater narrations. They are always a step above other narrations.

More, more, more!! So good, I just want the whole series out. Each book reveals more about Finch’s past while keeping the reader/listener interested in the current adventure. I can’t wait for the next one and all Shami has to offer!

Need MORE!!

Which is honestly rare in any genre. Book 1 was interesting enough, but every following book has just gotten better. Interesting characters are introduced, and more development and depth are added to returning casts. The world-building is solid, and there is a healthy amount of wit, humor, and action that's wrap around intrigue.

Has gotten better with each book...

This series has become my favorite time travel series. I've been reading the Dresden Files now for two decades, but by the time Shami gets to book 20 at about the same time Butcher gets to book 20, I think this will be my favorite series. The author writes the days of these books exactly how I would live them. I can't wait for the next book already. I'm recommending these books to anyone that likes magic and/or time travel. Two thumbs way up. The men and the woman narrators are top notch as well. This is as good as story telling gets.

I absolutely love this series

Shami Stovall continues to outdo herself in each book of this series. She is already Next Level at crafting chosen family. 24-Hour Warlock introduces someone from Finch's past while creating someone who operates at a whole different level than any of the villains in the other books. Maldonado was made to be powerful and scary, a worthy adversary for Adair Finch.
The books rhythm of storytelling continues to move at a perfect pace, what readers are accustomed to with Finch's pact and Shami's storytelling.
I will just finish with layers upon layers upon layers of epic world building, and I simply can't wait for the next book!
One more thing being an audiobook, Southbooth Theater knocked it out of the park! There are some books that are best listened to, and I believe this in one of those!
