A gripping story of political idealism, disillusionment, and new hope, Nothing Left exposes how the Democratic Party was hijacked by out-of-touch activists, coastal elitists, and powerful special interests. Packed with insider revelations and razor-sharp commentary, Evan Barker takes readers deep inside the machine to show how the party that once championed the working class lost its soul.

Evan Barker had a bright future in Democratic politics. A prodigious fundraiser and relentless operator, Barker raised tens of millions of dollars for Democrat candidates. But in August 2024, standing on the floor of the Democratic National Convention, Barker hit her breaking point. In that moment, she saw what no one inside the party dared admit: the Democrats had lost their way, and there was no path back.

Born into a union family in the Kansas City heartland with a rare genetic lung disease, Barker lived and breathed Democrat. The Democratic Party, she believed, was built to help people like her. But as she rose through the ranks, she saw a movement obsessed with moral posturing and identity politics rather than with the struggles of ordinary Americans. And when she spoke up, she became a target herself.

Pulling back the curtain on the world of donors, strategists, politicians, and activists that runs the party, Nothing Left is a blistering, behind-the-scenes look at the party’s transformation from working-class champion to elite echo chamber. Candid, fearless, and impossible to put down, it’s essential reading for anyone who wants to understand how American politics really works.

I suspect most Americans can find portions of Evan's story to relate to. Likewise, the conclusions seem relatively common sense but that probably only makes them more unwelcome to the DSA wing of the democratic party. I found myself reflecting on how different politics feels today relative to Obama 2008.

A tough but necessary reflection on the state of the Democratic party from someone on the inside.

I would say I’m pretty blanket conservative, but it was really wonderful to read Evans perspective. This book helped me understand our politicians more. hearing what she went through as a fundraiser helps me understand members of my family who are part of left’s political machine. I think this is a must read/listen to for anyone interested in what is going to happen in the United States next.

Honest and trustworthy stories form the workings of politics that many of us are unaware of.

Just finished Evan Barker's book about how she became a "Democratic Operative," how she worked in the political back rooms of a dozen elections, and how she gradually fell away from the party. Her journey is informative, her knowledge of what it takes to run an election is impressive, but her message is what's most important of all. The political party that wants to win the next national election, whether Democrat or Republican, would do well by taking her advice. She is spot on. Unfortunately, like Cassandra of Greek legend, I doubt party insiders will have the will or courage to accept the truth and act on it. Get this book. It is available in print or from Audible (Evan reads the Audible version and does it well).

Suck woman wants free healthcare for all. Not selfish at all, it's for everyone!

Woke ideologies woke her up. But she still wants free stuff. The only way to get people to vote for you is for you to give them free stuff.

She claims that whatever party figures out how to give people the most free stuff will have power for a long time.

Wakes up to left but still wants free stuff
