About this listen

The best-selling legal thriller - and CBS TV series - has charismatic defense attorney Mickey Haller taking on a slam-dunk court case involving a Beverly Hills playboy - but as it spirals into a nightmare, he finds himself in a fight for his life.

Mickey Haller is a Lincoln Lawyer, a criminal defense attorney who operates out of the backseat of his Lincoln Town Car, traveling between the far-flung courthouses of Los Angeles to defend clients of every kind. Bikers, con artists, drunk drivers, drug dealers - they're all on Mickey Haller's client list. For him, the law is rarely about guilt or innocence, it's about negotiation and manipulation. Sometimes it's even about justice.

A Beverly Hills playboy arrested for attacking a woman he picked up in a bar chooses Haller to defend him, and Mickey has his first high-paying client in years. It is a defense attorney's dream, what they call a franchise case. And as the evidence stacks up, Haller comes to believe this may be the easiest case of his career. Then someone close to him is murdered and Haller discovers that his search for innocence has brought him face-to-face with evil as pure as a flame.

To escape without being burned, he must deploy every tactic, feint, and instinct in his arsenal - this time to save his own life.

Excellent book

Im an avid listener of Michael Connelly's books and this is his best yet. I found myself sitting in my car after my long commutes just to hear some more of this work. This book is hard to pull away, Im glad I wasn't reading this in book form I would never get any sleep.

Im also a big grism fan and this is just as good as any of his Suspensful law novels. Connelly does a great job building characters and never disappoints with his endings

Bosch is gone, thank goodness

I loved Harry Bosch and have read every Connelly book to date, but let's face it, Harry is getting a bit long in the tooth. Connelly's new star is attorney Mickey Haller, and the story and reader are absolutely gripping. Though the story starts a bit slow, about half way through you'll start finding excuses to keep listening, extending your run on the treadmill or taking the long way home.

Connelly is BACK!

Really enjoyed the story

I tend to read more non-Fiction books, but The Lincoln Lawyer is really making me reevaluate the constraint. I truly enjoyed the book, the characters, and the sleaziness of main character while at same time seeing him as someone doing good - in his own way. Great ending!!

Glad I Gave Connelly Another Chance

Mickey Haller, the main character, the title character, is a principled man determined to stay true to himself, yet still finds a way to get the proper outcome. As a defense attorney, he feels he must work for the best interest of his client. But how do you do that when the client is clearly evil, may have done or may yet do further evil to you and your family and friends, and there's an innocent man you helped put in jail whose freedom hinges on his guilt?

If you've seen the movie, you may recall how Haller navigates that conundrum. And you may recall how Matt McConaughey brought his character to life. The movie was good, but the book has a lot more room to flesh out both the character and the plot, as well as the other characters and sub-plots.

I didn't really care for the first Michael Connelly book I listened to. But I wanted to give him another try. My problems with that particular book were specific to that book. Despite those problems, the writing and characterization were strong enough to warrant giving him another chance. Glad I did -- The Lincoln Lawyer was not necessarily great, but it was good, especially as an audiobook.

In Years of Listening, I've Heard None Better

First, the reader, Adam Grupper. I always rated Scott Brick as best, but this Adam is really an Adam, as in the First Man, Numero Uno. Incredible range as man, woman, professional, dirtball, with every nuance inbetween.
Now the story. Connolly is always good, but this is the best. I dove into this book always, with the same "need to hear" interest I got from the Divinci Code and Wolf's Charlotte Simmons. If you like detective stuff, gripping first person stuff, you will love this. You will not be disappointed.

1st Person Narrative of the Highest Caliber

The only first person cop/lawyer style narrative I have enjoyed as much have been the 3 or 4 books by Nelson DeMille that feature retired NYPD detective John Corey. However, author Michael Connelly's sense of story thread is impeccable and a thrill to follow. Connelly's work [I've read one other: Void Moon] appears to involve fewer tangents and sidebars than DeMille's sometimes rambling oddyseys, and so drives you to the destination with a more focused trajectory. I think there is one other Mickey Haller story, but I'm going to read a few other Connelly's before I try that one. Will review Void Moon later [I'm on the last 45 minutes of it and am crawling Audible for another Connelly. I don't want to see the cookie jar empty while I savor the last few crumbs of the Void Moon confection].
