In this hilarious gay fantasy romance, a reclusive sorcerer is forced to protect a cowardly knight after a prophecy ties their fates together. Funny, touching and inventive, this brilliant debut is perfect for fans of How to Become the Dark Lord and Die Trying and Dreadful.

In Which Many Dangerous and Homosexual Things Happen.

All his life, Sir Cameron has stayed as far away from danger as possible. He is quite frankly too handsome to die a pointless death in battle. But then the Church hands down a prophecy to his fellow knights: the only way to defeat their nemesis, the mad sorcerer Merulo, is to kill Sir Cameron. Short of ideas, Cameron throws himself on the mercy of the one person who now actually wants him to survive: the mad sorcerer.

Merulo isn’t thrilled to be babysitting a spoilt, attention–seeking knight, but transmogrifying him into a vulture is at least entertaining. Cameron, meanwhile, is on a voyage of self–discovery. It turns out he’s really, really into surly sorcerers who lock him up and tell him what to do. Who knew?

As a legion of knights surround their stronghold, the sorcerer’s poisonous ambitions draw ever closer to fruition. Cameron is quite invested in not dying, but he finds he’s also invested in Merulo. And sometimes, supporting the sorcerer you care about means taking an interest in their hobbies. Even if that hobby is trying to kill God.

Even if it might get you killed, too.

The story took a strange turn in the second half (and given the first half of the book that’s really saying something) but to be honest I felt like the plot really takes a back seat to the characters in this one. The two main characters are the epitome of Grumpy vs. Sunshine which usually leaves me disliking Grumpy but in this case it just heightened the comedy for me.

The other perfect element was the narrator. I really don’t know if I would enjoy this book as much in print as I did in audio, as he’s got just the right tone and timing.

So much fun

It’s a decent story. Love the premise. Felt like it would bring up plot points that you think would be significant but don’t actually matter later or that the reader is supposed to be shocked by some things but are not actually all that shocking.

I mean it’s ok.

literally so funny, everything was a marvel of humor and tongue in cheek chuckling as well as a refreshing take on old tropes. 5/5 will listen to again

What if The Sacrifical Lamb was the worst guy you knew?

I own the physical copy of this and I was absolutely delighted to find that there is an audiobook of it so I can listen to it at work.
I love the silly antics of Cameron and all the funny positions he ends up putting himself in by being a coward and I love the back and forth he and marulio have when they're figuring out their feelings and (as a warning there is a slight spoiler here so look away if you don't want it)

....... are you looking away?..... good.

are you sure your looking away ..... ok then spoiler starts.......now

anyway I absolutely love marulios sister at her obsession with technology I always have a weakness for big buff women especially big buff commanding women
despite all her teasing you can tell that she loves her brother Even with all the shit she gives him and Cameron

ok spoiler over 😁 but this is a great book to read between the twists and comedy and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes a funny romance

One of my favorite books

Best book I’ve read this year. If you’re expecting a run of the mill romantasy, this probably won’t be for you. But if you’re into satirical fantasy (British-type humor; think In Other Lands by Sarah Rees Brennan) with a queer romantic subplot—you’ll love it.

Loved it
