These narrative threads wind sinuously across a vast, richly detailed tapestry of the violent, sensual world of vampirism, taking us back 6,000 years to its beginnings. As the stories of the "first brood" of blood drinkers are revealed, we are swept across the ages, from Egypt to South America to the Himalayas to all the shrouded corners of the globe where vampires have left their mark. Vampires are created—mortals succumbing to the sensation of "being emptied, of being devoured, of being nothing." Vampires are destroyed. Dark rituals are performed—the rituals of ancient creatures prowling the modern world. The narration gets a bit in the way

The male narrator, Vikas Adam, is cringeworthy in many parts. Like he was doing a book for kids with comical characters. The hurried breathless staccato he often uses doesn't really work well. I'm not buying LeStat or Daniel at all. Some of his choices do work, however, like the voices of Armand or Marius.

The female narrator, Robin Miles, is fantastic. And the story is great.

the ending

the heavy narration of fictions history was read well but got a bit monotonous in tone due to lack of paced separation. if you were reading that material you probably would take rests like in music and add imaginary infected tonality.

best version of Lestat ever recorded. Anne would have loved this and the pervious 2 he's done. I certainly hope they redo the others using him. Good job.

Coming from the Vampire Lestat, I miss Simon Vance and wished I could pick up his version of the TQOTD.

Vikas' is talented and has a good range, but the choice of tone and delivery didn't always work for me. Sometimes excellent, but with some narration that felt out of character or rushed.

•••in all its unabridged magnificence! No one writes like Anne Rice! Phenomenal and even if one does not appreciate the subject matter one cannot deny the importance of her work. If every writer read or listened to her work their own writing would be infinitely improved. Caveat, there are a few comments on the initial narrative, not unfounded, of the Irish voice. However, stay with the book and as that poor maligned voice has not returned. Thank you young man.
Update: Ear the end and wish it was not so. The entire book is read by numerous voices and all are phenomenal! Highly recommend!
