Four damned souls, two impossible bargains, and a romance powerful enough to topple the realms.

Mercedes Midnight should be dead.

Her year is up, her debt is owed, yet here she stands—alive, cursed, and crackling with demon magic she has no idea how to wield.

Lucy Corvine, the devil’s broken daughter, clawed her way out of a contract that was never supposed to break. Now she’s something the underworld doesn’t have a name for. Something her father will tear the realm apart to find.

When two angels crash into Ora City, the rules change overnight.

One wants to watch the realms burn.

One wants to save them.

No one is safe.

Reunited and running, Midnight and Lucy strike a new bargain: trust each other, no matter what crawls out of the dark. But trust is a brittle little thing. And every kiss in candlelit libraries hides a betrayal that could damn them both all over again.

There’s only one truth left… someone is lying.

Find out who—before they lose their city, their world, and their hearts.

Three realms. Two damned hearts. One final reaping.

This is the second (and final) book in a dark and very steamy lesbian demon romance featuring masc daddies, soul-reaping bargains, fallen angels, dark academia vibes, gothic battles, found family, morally grey heroines, betrayal, sapphic obsession, and a love that levels cities. 18+ listeners only.

I recently listened to book 1 in this duology, which ended on a cliffhanger, & I needed to pick this up immediately. This book wastes no time throwing you back in with major surprises. With this book named after the darker twin angel, Interitus, I knew there would be focus on her, but I wasn’t expecting how important Architecti, the “good angel,” would be. There’s an explosive conflict btw them, & I was just as invested in them as I was FMCs, Lucy & Midnight!

Like book 1, this story has alternating POVs—Lucy, Midnight, & Architecti. I would have loved to have an Interitus POV as it’s named after her & she’s a complex villain. I loved how big the world-building is in this book, with more realm-crossing & an exploration of the Underworld! The cat-and-mouse chase scenes btw Lucy & Interitus are SO intense that I could feel all the panic from Lucy & her snarky ghost cat. A major thread unfolds the truth behind Lucy’s identity/power—& you better buckle up b/c the reveals are jaw-dropping!

Like book 1, this has short chapters, many ending in mini-cliffhangers. My only minor beef from book 1 was too many 🌶️ scenes, some taking up whole chapters—this had a better balance. The fewer 🌶️ scenes were well-placed & the focus remains on dark fantasy elements, character arcs, & twists!

In the final 30% the pacing ramps up & the final confrontation is epic with crazy magic & heartbreaking choices! While I didn’t understand all the mechanics of how the villains are defeated, I was fully engaged. The last chapter brings the story full circle, returning to Architecti’s POV, with final words that left me thinking everything over!

NARRATION:
Interitus is read by seasoned narrators Allie Rose, Aria Holland, and Vivienne LaRue, who reprise their roles, making this duology the perfect back-to-back binge listen!

Just like the first book, this audiobook begins with Allie Rose narrating Architecti’s POV, this time in the Underworld with her sister after learning of her plans to break the fabric of all realms. Rose narrates their confrontation with hostility and emotional intensity, and I was instantly drawn in. Rose does an incredible job slowly shifting her performance to capture Architecti’s transformation. Once Interitus takes something precious from her, Rose shifts her voice more dramatically to convey Architecti’s darker side and need for revenge. The exchanges between the sisters are delivered with such intensity and emotion that I found myself unable to stop listening. Later in the story, when Architecti speaks directly to the reader and reveals some shocking truths, Rose uses a sly and almost menacing tone to really convey another side of her character that I wasn’t fully expecting but that kept me thoroughly entertained. During Architecti’s final confrontations with Lucy, Rose adds an even sharper and more dangerous edge to her voice to perfectly capture how far Architecti has fallen. Then, in the final chapter, Rose shifts her performance again as Architecti reflects on all that’s happened, delivering a thoughtful and emotional closing performance that leaves a lasting impression!

Aria Holland’s portrayal of Lucy is another standout. When Lucy finds herself in the Underworld trying to understand who she is now and how she can return to the mortal realm, Holland gives her a voice filled with uncertainty, vulnerability, and determination. Some of my favorite moments were the scenes with Lucy and the cat Mortem as they attempt to evade Interitus in the Underworld. Holland adds the perfect amount of urgency and tension to Lucy’s voice to make the chase sequences feel thrilling and cinematic. Toward the end, when Lucy understands the truth about the angels and the extent of her abilities, Holland shifts her performance to add more confidence, self-assurance, and determination to Lucy’s voice. I really felt her becoming the powerful heroine she was meant to be, and her character arc felt complete!

Vivienne LaRue delivers a dynamic performance as Midnight, especially early on as Midnight carries the guilt of having reaped Lucy’s soul. You can hear the weight of Midnight’s guilt in her delivery, but when Lucy returns, LaRue shifts her tone to capture how determined Midnight is to make things right and break free from the impossible contract tying her to Ignatius. The scenes where Midnight confronts him are especially compelling, as LaRue makes it clear that Midnight is fearless with nothing left to lose—and I admired her even more. Toward the end of the story, when Midnight faces some difficult decisions and enters the celestial realm, these scenes (and those that follow) are the most compelling and cinematic of the audiobook.

If you’re considering this series, or if Interitus sounds like a book you’d enjoy, I recommend listening to the audiobooks back-to-back!
