About this listen

Batman is one of the most compelling and enduring characters to come from the Golden Age of Comics, and interest in his story has only increased through countless incarnations since his first appearance in Detective Comics #27 in 1939.

Why does this superhero without superpowers fascinate us? What does that fascination say about us?

Batman and Psychology explores these and other intriguing questions about the masked vigilante, including the following: Does Batman have PTSD? Why does he fight crime? Why as a vigilante? Why the mask, the bat, and the underage partner? Why are his most intimate relationships with bad girls he ought to lock up? And why won't he kill that homicidal green-haired clown?

This book, which is written by a psychology professor and Superherologist (a scholar of superheroes), gives fresh insight into the complex inner world of Batman and Bruce Wayne (and the other characters of Gotham City), using this popular comic-book character as a lens to help explain psychological theory and concepts.

Excellent

If you like the Batman universe (from the comics, movies, and animated series) and psychology then this is an excellent book that analyzes the characters and choices seen throughout the various mediums. Multiple analyses using psychologists like Jung, Erikson, Freud, and many others. If you’re not familiar with psychology, this book is still enjoyable because explanations are given. Written by a Batman fan that speaks to Batman fans!

Good read

Pretty great book. Except the way he pronounces Loki. I really couldn’t get over that part. Sorry

Sad

I had to read this book in High School and loved it. At the time, the narrator was Mike Chamberlain. He brought the book and characters to life. His voice was pleasing to hear as well. It has since changed to Paul Bellantoni, who is a good reader, but doesn’t suck you into the book nearly as much as Chamberlain did. It changes the book for me and makes it not as interesting to listen as Bellantoni’s voice is very different. Fantastic book with good content, but this is audible. We are buying audiobooks, because of that, the narrator makes a world of difference. I wish I could still get the Mike Chamberlain version. 7.5/10

Unexpected but great nonetheless.

Even though I stand by my own opinion that Batman is crazy, I'm no psychologist. But I did fully understand the points that the writer brought up. I really enjoyed everything that this book covered. Definitely worth it.
