Publisher's summary

Being a Woman – Forthcoming is the third collection of poems in the Being a Woman series. In this final collection readers will be energized and inspired by a variety of strong speakers, including several women who have overcome challenges on their way to becoming and are now asking important life questions. The final collection also includes a tribute to Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and to significant women from the poet’s life who are no longer living, but their memories live on and will be relatable for all readers. The three collections, now totaling forty poems, began with one poem, “My Curves,” that gave a voice to the humiliated middle-school student who often reminded the poet she should go quietly to the back row and hide herself. Releasing that memory and giving that hushed girl a voice, allowed the poet to usher in several other poems that became the Overcoming collection. Continuing to write her way beyond limiting beliefs, the poet wrote the second Becoming collection – a celebration of empowered women. The final Forthcoming collection begins with a dramatic and hopeful poem, “Sunrise Forthcoming,” that weaves together themes found in the first collection. The final fifteen poems bring the Being a Woman readers further along on a journey of self-discovery and personal empowerment and the lessons and wisdom found in these final poems are sure to remain with readers, long after the last page is turned. Being a Woman readers will once again delight in the original and beautiful drawings created by the poet’s daughter, Sammi Lee. The mom and daughter duo began working on their Being a Woman illustrated poetry books at the start of the pandemic, not knowing how meaningful their long-distance collaborative project would be during a time of disruption and disconnection across the globe. Their Being a Woman endeavor has allowed the poet mom and artist daughter to strengthen their womanly bond and encourage other women to celebrate their own magnificent womanhood.
