Publisher's summary

Being a faerie princess isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Ivy must go to Faerie, but the gateway to the Wisp Court is through Tech Duinn, the house of Donn - Celtic god of the dead. Just her luck.

Unable to share her secret with Jinx, and with Jenna called away on Hunters' Guild business, Ivy must rely on Ceff and Torn to lead her to Death's door, literally, and back again. As if that wasn't dangerous enough, there's no saying what horrors lay in store within the Faerie realm. Too bad the Wisp Court is the one lead Ivy has in the search for her father - and possible salvation.

Maybe hiding away and dodging sidhe assassins isn't so bad after all.

Birthright is the fourth full-length novel in the award-winning Ivy Granger urban fantasy series by E.J. Stevens. The world of Ivy Granger, including the Ivy Granger Psychic Detective series and Hunters' Guild series, is filled with action, paranormal mystery, magic, dark humor, quirky characters, bloodsucking vampires, flirtatious demons, sarcastic gargoyles, sexy shifters, temperamental witches, psychotic faeries, and snarky, kick-butt heroines.

OMG!

The ending came out of nowhere on this one for me. I can normally see what is going to happen later on and just have to wait fot it. Not this one. It blindsided me and then all of it came together. If I would have read the first 3 in the series, this might not have happened, but I am glad it did.

Ivy has to visit Faerie to get to the Wisp's Court. She takes a couple of cohorts with her and then the fun starts. It might be bad for Faerie Land, because she decides she needs to kill a few of the main players off while getting to the Wisp's Court. Writers should be real pissed at this author because she took half of their characters away in one book. But, as they say,"Oh Well".

As you can tell, I really liked this book. I think that I will have to read the first 3 in the series now. I would love to tell you parts of the book, but I do not revel a lot in my reviews. Just enough to get you to read it. The characters were developed with great thought and the plot moved along with ease. Did not bounce around at all.

Get it. Read it. Then put it on your shelve for a later date.

Ivy finally learns about herself!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Birthright?

Ivy gets a trip into Faerie. She starts to see her wisp side closer, learning more of what she's looking for. She gets time with a family member. But what she learns in the end is a shocker! Just wait until you learn what Ivy finds out about herself. Wow.

Which character – as performed by Melanie A. Mason and Anthony Bowling – was your favorite?

We get the dual voices of Melanie and Anthony, for female and male characters. Melanie feels the voice of what I hear or think of with Ivy. Anthony does a little voice for Sparky that reminds me of a little kid. Anthony does a few different voices and personalities with his voice for many different small character parts. I do like that the two narrators together gives us the opportunity to have one act out what is happening under the other's narration. They add in a few small audio affects as well, stone sliding over stone and water falling. Cool! However, I don't think it was my ipod but when Ivy and friends get to Faerie it seems the background becomes thicker--Ch 23 on audio. There are a few chapters that sound as though muffled, like the background is thick. after that too. It's not a huge thing but I did pick it up.

Any additional comments?

The introduction is changed! The part about Ivy being the PI to inquire with, is different. It says that she's dead!

One thing I notice with each book is that we get each characters history the first time we meet them. This is the fourth book and I remember hearing the histories each time. I think at this point, we can back down on that detailed list. But I do like small hints of past events to remind us, and if it's from a novella that's not needed to continue in the series it makes you curious to get them.

Ivy's relationship with Ceff also grows. And her friendship with Torn is really something. She spends a good bit of time with Ceff and Torn, and they go through a lot for her. The two do have quick clips back and forth that is competition of each other but so fun too. They do torment each other, at least Torn torments Ceff with quick comments to Ivy. lol. We also have a new friend, Skilly. He grows on you quick.

This story had me thinking about past stories. I think Ivy, or someone, had contact with Queen Mab in a novella, and I need to go back to double check.

This is a series that is quick and easy to follow for me. Seeing it's summer time, I would highly suggest listening to this as you relax for the summer.

Excellent!

supernatural, fae, lore, action-adventure, urban-fantasy, psychics, twisty -----
First I had to wrap my head around the Ivyverse because it is quite different from the Mercyverse, Dresdenverse, and others. While there is enough angst and a fine collection of baddies, this place is basically a whole lot more fun. The characters are really interesting and engaging, but I missed Jenna. The publisher's blurb gives hints and there is no need for spoilers, but that can't begin to prepare for the addictiveness of this book! I loved it!
My copy is audio and the narration has Melanie Mason for the females and Anthony Bowling for the males. This combination is fantastic!

Five Incredible Stars!

Wow, what an entertaining story!

I really enjoyed this audiobook and performance; however, because I didn't listen to the first three stories in the series, I felt I was missing some details BUT this did not in anyway impact my rating. Birthright does provide enough information, back details, and is such an intriguing story, with a plot that really drew me in. I didn't feel lost, but do think the plot would have been much richer if read in order.

This was certainly a fast paced story, full suspense, action, some romance and great character development. I really liked Ivy!

Melanie and Anthony provided an excellent performance which enhanced the overall audiobook experience! They really brought the characters to life.

Overall, this was a fantastic, and I'm going to have to go back, and listen to the prior stories!

Great Urban Fantasy Story About Ivy Granger

Birthright is the 4th book in the Ivy Granger series. I have not read the first 3 but I really enjoyed this one.

Ivy is a great character and it is easy to get sucked into this story. All characters are well developed and easy to follow.

I like having 2 narrators. It makes it a nice addition to the listening experience. You will find mystery, suspense, action, and romance in this book. And some betrayal as well... It is quite entertaining!

This book is very well written with a great heroine. I'm going to look for the previous 3 and listen to them as well.

Interesting magical fae adventure!

Both narrators are good, and I enjoy that there’s sound effects. The dialogue changes between the female and male narrators does come off as a bit abrupt at times; takes me out of the story some, but overall, I really enjoy the listen. It’s an interesting experience.

This is book 4 following Ivy Granger’s magical adventures learning about the surprises that come with being involved in the fae world. For the best reading experience, I’d recommend starting from the beginning. There’s a lot usually going on in Ivy’s life and lots of quirky characters. In this one, Ivy and a few of her allies, are on the search for Ivy’s father, but of course, things are never simple for Ivy. They find themselves in all kinds of trouble while dealing with all the shadiness and secrets going on. Cool premise, fun magic, and interesting characters. I like Ivy, but she does tend to not see the deceptions right in front of her face. Love that she stands up for herself and other though. I do think the story can move a bit slowly and I wish there was more depth to the whole story and characters, but I still enjoy the books in this series.

A well-written story from a very good author

Birthright: Ivy Granger, Psychic Detective, Book 4, my eleventh read from author E.J. Stevens and my ninth Ivy Granger read. Well-written with intriguing characters. 7-hours 4-minute/272-pages of psychic detective enjoyment. This time Ivy travels to, wait no spoilers here, buy the book, read & review the book. E.J. Stevens has rapidly become a go-to author for me! I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reading & reviewing it. Melanie A. Mason & Anthony Bowling’s narration adds to the book's enjoyment. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

Adventure of the Century

this book was phenomenal. I love the fact that the author took the time to develop the story and this kept me entranced. when I wasn't listening to the story, I was thinking about the story. The characters were believable and the situations were plausible for this genre. The narrator's were truly awesome and their voices fit the characters to a tee. princess, jef, toran, skilly, jinx, the little devil dog and Cade, these characters were just amazing and the twists and turns mind-boggling. I laughed, my heart ached, and then my heart bursted with pride. I recommend this book wholeheartedly. it's very creative and has an excellent flow.

This is one of my absolute fave series. I can't get enough of Ivy and her friends. I love the world this author has created and it gets better with every book. The narrator's are perfection in pacing and bringing the story and characters to life. I'm excited for more in this series and from this author
