Chief Inspector Macdonald has been invited to a treasure hunt party at the house of the Graham Coombe, the celebrated publisher of Murder by Mesmerism. There are many false clues and several suspects with much of the searching leading to nothing but dead ends. Story
Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson are no strangers to peculiar cases. Be it the dilemma of an Indian princess on the run, perfectly healthy people dropping dead as divine punishment, being challenged to a duel, a heartbroken and suicidal young man, a beautiful woman claiming to be Mrs. Holmes, a little boy who loves his dog, an old Scottish ghost that traditionally haunts husbands of pregnant women - there is very little they haven't seen (and solved). But, besides regular adventures, there are quite a few questions - Where was Holmes during the Great Hiatus?

Classic indeed
Four stories written as mystery writing was just underway. Not the very best, but well worth it for those that like the mystery classics. The narration is good.

Fun genre for mystery fans
I like the genre: short mysteries that take place on trains in England. Had no idea there was such a thing. I enjoyed the diversion. Wonderful reading performance.
