Resumen del Editor
The daring debut of the Beat Generation's first woman novelist
It's 1955. Seven days before her graduation from Barnard College, Susan Levitt asks herself, "What if you lived your entire life without urgency?" - just before going out to make things happen to her that will shatter the mask of conformity concealing her feelings of alienation. If Susan continues to be "good", marriage and security await her. But her hunger is rising for the self-discovery that comes from existential freedom.
After breaking up with the Columbia boy she knows she could marry, Susan seeks out those she considers "outlaws": the brave and fragile Kay, who has moved into a rundown hotel, in order to "see more than fifty percent when I walk down the street"; the vulnerable adolescent rebel Anthony; and Peter, the restless hipster graduate student who has become the object of Kay's unrequited devotion.
This fascinating novel - which the author began writing a year before her encounter with Jack Kerouac - is a young woman's complex response to the liberating messages of the Beat Generation. In a subversive feminist move, Johnson gives her heroine all the freedom the male Beat writers reserved for men, to travel her own road.

The Goldfinch is a haunted odyssey through present-day America and a drama of enthralling force and acuity. It begins with a boy. Theo Decker, a 13-year-old New Yorker, miraculously survives an accident that kills his mother. Abandoned by his father, Theo is taken in by the family of a wealthy friend. Bewildered by his strange new home on Park Avenue, disturbed by schoolmates who don't know how to talk to him, and tormented above all by his unbearable longing for his mother, he clings to one thing that reminds him of her: a small, mysteriously captivating painting that ultimately draws Theo into the underworld of art.

Historia
Set against a backdrop of jazz music, bootlegging, and lavish parties, The Great Gatsby is the story of Midwesterner Nick Carraway’s curious introduction to the decadent world of his mysterious, wealthy neighbor Jay Gatsby, whose thirst for riches is matched only by his tragic obsession with the beautiful Daisy Buchanan. This dangerously propulsive tale of glitz and glamour continues to be relevant as listeners long for escapist novels—a chance to flee into Gatsby’s famed mansion and lose oneself in the rush of opulence.

Historia
Award-winning poet Marisa de los Santos crafts an irresistibly touching debut novel. Love Walked In is a contemporary tale, steeped in nostalgic, cinematic charm, of love in all its forms. Unapologetically idealistic about love, Cornelia Brown appears to catch the break of a lifetime when the dashing Martin Grace, her own personal Cary Grant, comes strolling into her life. But it is Martin's connection to 11-year-old Clare Hobbes that touches Cornelia's heart in ways she never imagined.

Had to read this story for a class, great short story! Loved the reader’s voice, very accurate for portraying New Yorker accents. Lastly, how the hell do none of these DUDES know how to make a chick come. She was chill with it BUT STILL god damn. I know she didn’t sleep with Jerry but I just know he would even last a full 5 seconds… 10/10 story tho, would read again, also Kay deserves better.
