About this listen

For a decade, Darrow led a revolution against the corrupt color-coded Society. Now, outlawed by the very Republic he founded, he wages a rogue war on Mercury in hopes that he can still salvage the dream of Eo. But as he leaves death and destruction in his wake, is he still the hero who broke the chains? Or will another legend rise to take his place?

Lysander au Lune, the heir in exile, has returned to the Core. Determined to bring peace back to mankind at the edge of his sword, he must overcome or unite the treacherous Gold families of the Core and face down Darrow over the skies of war-torn Mercury.

But theirs are not the only fates hanging in the balance.

On Luna, Mustang, Sovereign of the Republic, campaigns to unite the Republic behind her husband. Beset by political and criminal enemies, can she outwit her opponents in time to save him?

Once a Red refugee, young Lyria now stands accused of treason, and her only hope is a desperate escape with unlikely new allies.

Abducted by a new threat to the Republic, Pax and Electra, the children of Darrow and Sevro, must trust in Ephraim, a thief, for their salvation - and Ephraim must look to them for his chance at redemption.

As alliances shift, break, and re-form - and power is seized, lost, and reclaimed - every player is at risk in a game of conquest that could turn the Rising into a new Dark Age.

Sound volume

I sure wish the sound engineers had put all the narrators at the same volume

Great story bad performances

Once again Pierce Brown comes though with an amazing story. My only complaint with this audiobook is the voice acting of the characters other than Darrow. Should've had Tim Gerard Reynolds narrate the entire book. He has always been great and I kind of got used to his voicing of the characters.

About to start listening to my second time through as I may have missed some things.

Changed narrators

Why change the narrators? Tim Gerard is great, but the extras from the last book were much better. Especially Lyra. Good story but should have been the same.

Best one yet.

Yup, I ready to put this book ahead of Golden Son as the best one in the Series. It makes for a brutal read, but that's only fair considering that the Rising/Republic is facing annihilation at the hands of the toughest, proudest, merciless and the most remorseless creatures to walk the world.

Lysander's narration was definitely way off. I wasn't a big fan of it in IG either, but they somehow made it worse.

I don't know why they changed Lyria's narrator. I had no problems with Scottish accent in IG since a lot of the Reds originated from that area and they still use some of the ancient jargon. But then again, the new narrator did well enough so no complaints from me.

Virginia's narration was absolutely spot on. I thought it captured her perfectly. I'd put it on par with TGR's narration of Darrow. BRAVO!

Great BUT, the audio mastering is ridiculous

The story is fantastic, and the performances were fantastic, but the audio mastering is so poor, it was frustrating to listen to at times.
The narrator who played Ephraim, for example, started each sentence near yelling, and finished each sentence in a whisper. Often he would speak so lowly that I’d have to monitor the volume and turn it up to absolute maximum, then all of a sudden he would be bellowing and blast my ears.
If only they would have better microphone awareness and at least if the audio master applied a dynamic compression filter to limit the minimum and maximum volume range to a level where I didn’t have to have the volume at 9-10 out of 10 just to understand the dialogue, this recording would be much more tolerable.
That being said, this is one of the most engaging and exciting stories available.
I wish the Wachowskis, the people who made the film Jupiter Ascending (and matrix) would bring this to the screen.
Bravo. (But please do better with the audio—this is an AUDIObook, people need to be able to listen to this in their car)

Holy Sh*t.... Bravo!

My goodness. Mr. Pierce Brown just brought it to the next level. Last book set the pieces for this masterpiece of a story where emotion, grandeur... The characters are so alive... The talent so real. I can't put into words how good this book is and the performance. I was captivated. This is def my number one overall audio book. Bravo actors and actresses.. Bravo Mr. Brown. Thank you so much for a beautiful masterpiece.

Awesome book!!!

Book content - One of the Best in the Series
Audio - the parts from Ephraim are a little soft and hard to hear at times - but it's manageable.

Brown does it again!

It has to be tough to keep up the quality of the narrative for a long series, but Brown manages it. This is another outstanding contribution to what I personally think is the best science fiction/fantasy series of the last 5 years. I will sometimes put on the first few chapters of Red Rising just to hear Tim Gerard Reynolds set the stage for the epic adventures to come, If you haven't given this series a try, do yourself a favor and just try Red Rising. You will soon find yourself tearing through the rest of the series!
I was skeptical at first that some additional narrators were added this time around, but they did not disappoint. Each brought something new and intriguing to the story line. Great choices, great voices. Another great book!

EPIC EPIC EPIC

Look people, this is an epic and masterful production. I loved the grit and hard moments, that is what makes any good story great. The struggle is REAL and I can't wait for the next book. Well done Pierce Brown and narriorots Tim Gerard Reynolds, John Curless, Moira Quirk, James Langton, Rendah Heywood and the producers. I am delighted to enjoy all the books so far and look forward to more.

KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK
