Die letzten Habseligkeiten des Sargmachers Adrian Prochorow waren auf den Leichenwagen gelegt, und ein Paar magerer Pferde schleppte diesen zum vierten Mal von der Basmannaja in die Nikitskaja, wohin der Sargmacher mit seinem ganzen Haushalt umzog. Er machte seinen Laden zu, nagelte eine Anzeige an die Tür, dass das Haus zu verkaufen und zu vermieten sei, und begab sich zu Fuß nach seiner neuen Wohnung. Als er sich dem gelben Häuschen näherte, das schon lange seine Phantasie gereizt und das er endlich für eine bedeutende Summe erworben hatte, fühlte der alte Sargmacher mit Erstaunen, dass sein Herz sich gar nicht freute.
Alexander Puschkin wurde am 06.06.1799 in Moskau geboren, gestorben am 10.02.1837 in St. Petersburg. Puschkin stammte väterlicherseits aus einem alten Adelsgeschlecht, sein Urgroßvater mütterlicherseits war ein äthiopischer Sklave, der dem Zaren Peter dem Großen geschenkt und sein Patenkind wurde. Nach dem Abschluss des Lyzeum 1817 wurde Puschkin in St. Petersburg als Beamter im Ministerium für Auswärtige Angelegenheiten angestellt. Er interessierte sich stark für das Theater, wurde Mitglied literarischer Gesellschaften und setzte sich für die Weiterentwicklung der russischen Sprache ein. Beeinflusst von den Ideen der französischen Revolution griff er in politischen Spottgedichten den Zaren und einige Minister an und wurde deshalb 1820 nach Südrussland verbannt. In der Verbannung schrieb Puschkin seine romantische Poeme „Der Gefangene im Kaukasus“ (1821), „Die Zigeuner“(1924) und „Die Raubbrüder“. Nach dem Tod des Zaren Alexander I. 1825 wurde Puschkin begnadigt und durfte wieder nach Moskau und St. Petersburg zurückkehren. Wegen Puschkins Verbindung zu den Dekabristen (adeligen Rebellen, die wegen ihres Protestes gegen das absolutistische Regime verfolgt wurden), wurde nicht nur seine Arbeit, sondern auch sein Leben streng überwacht. 1830 beendet er sein bedeutendstes Werk, das Versepos Eugen Onegin, das er 1825 begonnen hatte. Im Jahr 1831 heiratete er Natalia Gontscharowa, mit der er vier Kinder hatte. Das Paar zog nach Petersburg, wo es nur durch Unterstützung von Gontscharowas wohlhabender Verwandtschaft am mondänen Leben des Zarenhofes teilnehmen konnte. Im Winter des Jahres 1837 duelliert er sich in Folge einer Intrige mit dem französischen Gardeoffizier George d'Anthès, wird dabei schwer verletzt und stirbt zwei Tage später an den Folgen der erlittenen Schussverletzung.
