About this listen

A collection of stories from the most famous Western author of all time! Desert Death-Song is a compilation of some of Louis L’Amour’s greatest stories, many of which might otherwise be difficult to find. Whether he was writing under his early pen name, Jim Mayo, or his own, L’Amour’s stories are unforgettable, touching on rough and rugged American ideals, and set in the untamable frontier of the Western United States. Nearly a dozen stories are presented here that represent the best of L’Amour’s yarn-spinning writing, a choice collection handpicked from the variety of pulp Western magazines in which the author first became known.

The most popular author of Westerns the world has ever known, L’Amour wrote stories full of mavericks, outlaws, romantics, and heroes. His characters follow the unspoken laws and morals of the Wild West, and the pictures he paints are unrivaled in their authenticity. From gold prospectors to sheriffs, the characters of L’Amour's tales will never be forgotten.

Editorial reviews

The hardy grit of veteran performer John McLain pairs perfectly with this collection from one of the greatest Western writers of all time. McLain’s robust delivery takes listeners back to a time when justice was conducted with nothing more than a six-shooter, when sometimes the only thing you could trust was the horse beneath your legs. Desert Death Song features some of the best short stories from Louis L’Amour, including some rare early pieces found from some of his earliest publications.

Great

Great stories, dissapointed when the last one was told. Just as good if not better to listen to these stories than sit and read. Obviously not having the book is different but the convenience and efficiency of listening to books is way better. If you have some work to do just put on an audiobook and the work is almost pleasant.

Louis L’Amour best western writer

If you’re not familiar with Louis l’Amour, he thoroughly researched the history of the west and his stories are the most realistic depicting the historical context. If you like western stories, I would highly recommend any of his books.

Talked Cowboy

I have sampled a few of the author’s book and enjoyed this one the most. The voices and speed of the reading made this an enjoyable listen. Some of these same stories are in other collection and I found them difficult to listen to. The stories are great but the reading is excellent.

An excellent listen

I am an old fan of Louis. I own every paperback. I am new to Audiobooks, but love them as it is sometimes difficult to hold a book, even a paperback. This reader was excellent. The stories were, as usual, great. I love the audiobooks as I can listen while driving or just relaxing. Thank you.
