Publisher's summary

All Doctor Dire wants to do is save the world.

But those pesky heroes keep getting in the way, and it's all she can do to give them a good fight without killing them. Supervillainy is such an underappreciated job these days....

Suspension of disbelief difficult

The author is making this story use real world constructs like machinery and circuits instead of just "it's magic". Yet when main character has 25% circuitry failure, her mech suit is still pretty much 100% functional, the only difference is things can take longer / splurt a bit. It's more like a computer game character that continues to be just fine until the life bar goes to 0 and then the fully functioning person becomes dead.

A good taste

A short intro for this story that gives me an excellent view into the world and leaves me wanting more. I will definitely be starting this series in earnest!

Nice listen

I listened to this audio book on a whim since I like some of the authors other books. I was happy to find a good funny listen. Love the perspective of the villain who is actually a good person. I really recommend it. Now I am off to listen to the next in the series :)

Hidden gem

I picked up this short story on a whim and was SO SURPRISED. I've never experienced a 48 min story make me feel like I just completed a 12 hour fully fleshed out story. Dr. Dire is now my new favorite sometimes Hero. I'm immediately going on to the first full length novel in the series and can't wait to see what Andrew Seiple can deliver with nearly 12 times the content. WELL DONE!

The first taste..

Love the Dire series.
This one feels like a tiny encapsulated sampler (a seiple sample?) of the themes.
As someone who has already read many of the books in the series, it was a little nostalgic and makes me want to relisten from “born”.

Good, but didnt get much out of this

This short was well written and gave a small introduction into some of the characters in the main storyline but didnt shed much light onto who the previous incarnation of Dire truely was. Was about one of her schemes which wasnt necessarily evil but maybe a bit callus which shows some difference between the Dire we get to know in the main story line but i was hoping for a solid reason for why she erased her memory.bi suppose that would spoil the mystery though which the author is clearly building until one of the later books. Overall it was alright but nothing ground breaking.

Too woke for me

First book was great it subsequent books became too woke for me. Most of characters are homosexual and exploring their same sex relationships. Conservative politician turned out to be a rapist kidnapper. Black characters focus on race a lot Too politically woke.
