Publisher's summary

Two seasoned operatives finally meet their match: each other.

Cillian works for the mysterious Special Branch 20: an organization that runs black ops commissioned by the British government. His specialty is deep undercover assignments with virtually no support. He's been alone for so long that he no longer knows anything else.

Mal's also used to being alone. Wanted in several states and even more countries, he's not allowed in the vicinity of any of his former Navy SEAL teammates. And his current assignment is to track Cillian in order to discover the spook's endgame. Except he's no longer sure which one of them is getting played.

Cillian isn't about to let the mission that's consumed him for the past several years crumble because an outsider is poking around where he doesn't belong. But Mal forces his way through Cillian's defenses - and into his heart - exposing a devastating betrayal that could destroy them both.

miss this author so much!

I love these two guys and am so bummed the author has apparently quit writing about them ☹

I found the ending to be both a terrible tease and a wonderful opportunity for more. Not quite a cliffy but…

Audio

Dorian Bane is the right choice for this narration! Though he isn’t super with accents his gritty voice and pacing are exactly right for this story. Obviously Mal can’t speak but if he could I imagine it’d be with a really rough voice.

In any case Dorian is easy to listen to and absolutely adds to the overall enjoyment of this story.

5 of 5 stars for both

The ending is a real kicker!

Ths is a book one in a series but feels like its deeper in. I admit I was a bit at a loss in the beginning but started following better as the story went on and more backstory is dropped. The characters are from the Hell and High water series and another of S E Jakes series. I do suggest you read them first so you know who Prophet and Tom are and the man that both Cillian and Mal are chasing.
The story is short so I am not going into depth because it would drop spoilers. All I can say is this is a great build up into a new series. I can't wait for the full-length story. There is lots of hot-steamy sex, sex clubs, murder and mayhem, some shocking revelations and twists galore in such a short story. My jaw aches from dropping so much!

Sizzling and Thrilling- Great Romantic Suspense

With great anticipation, I settled in to listen to this latest book that brings together two of S.E. Jakes recurring characters from the Hell or High Water series and I was not left disappointed. This is a quick read, but it delivers on the raw sensuality and danger. I was left squirming from the heat Mal and Cillian generated even as I worked through all the twists this one delivered. And that last twist? Holy Bejeebers! I am so in need of book two here!

I thought I liked the Hell or High Water series, but this parallel series is going to give it a run for its money. Cillian and Mal are something else together. They can scorch up the IM board more than most people can do in a bed. They are both dark ops, lethal men who barely have a conscience after all they've done. Their passions run along those same lines and just... yeah, I need something cool to drink after listening to these two sex messaging. I can't wait to have more revealed over the next few books. Surprises have already jumped out, but I just know there is so much more. And how do they recover from that reveal at the end of this one?

The narration work was done by favorite narrator, Dorian Bane. He caught the twisting, gritty, and sweltering tones of this shorter story. There was that something extra that really made this story come to life. Those final moments when both characters got the big shocking news had me riveted and he captured so much both action and emotion that was there.

If you enjoy exciting, dark and gritty m/m romantic suspense, you really need to pick this one up. Actually, start with the Bound series and then the Hell or Highwater which leads into this one so you'll get the best out of it all and not feel like you're dropped into the middle of something.

Awful Narration

The story was great however the narration was terrible so much so that I stopped listening and completed the book by reading it.

No Just NO!

You know I really loved the Hell and High water series. The characters were so well-rounded and so beautifully flawed that you fell in love with them. And as I stated before Adam / Cooper North did a fabulous job in narration so for the life of me I can't understand why the powers that be chose another narrator for the fourth book which really ruined the whole series. I was really looking forward to listening to Dirty Deeds, Malachi's and Killians story after reading it on Kindle. But boy who ever chose Dorian Bane as the narrator really screwed the pooch on this one. I'm truly sorry that I had to say that but come on now. Don't you actually want people to listen to your work?
