Publisher's summary
In this gripping novel of small-town scandal and sizzling passion, New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts tells the story of a renowned artist who confronts a mystery from her past—and finds that her family secrets have not been laid to rest.
Famed sculptor Clare Kimball has commanded the attention of the New York art world, but troubling memories from childhood have drawn her home to Maryland, to the town where she grew up and where her father died so long ago in circumstances never really explained. Nothing much has changed in Emmitsboro—except Cameron Rafferty, the onetime high school bad boy turned town sheriff. The only hint of Cam’s wild nature is the light in his eyes when he looks at Clare. In Cam’s strong arms Clare is seduced into falling in love—and believing that her small-town world is safe.
But within the dark woods of Emmitsboro, something evil is spreading its poisonous power. Now Clare must pay the price for digging up the secrets of the past . . . and confront an evil that may be unstoppable—because those who practice it believe it is divine.

What’s happening in Acker’s Gap, West Virginia? Three elderly men are gunned down over their coffee at a local diner, and seemingly half the town is there to witness the act. Still, it happened so fast, and no one seems to have gotten a good look at the shooter. Was it random? Was it connected to the spate of drug violence plaguing poor areas of the country just like Acker’s Gap? Or were Dean Streeter, Shorty McClurg, and Lee Rader targeted somehow?

Little else in life is as dangerous as fire jumping. Flying past towering pillars of smoke, parachuting down to the edge of an all-consuming blaze, shoveling and sawing for hours upon hours, days at a time, all to hold the line and push back against the raw power of Mother Nature. But there’s also little else as thrilling - at least to Rowan Tripp. The Missoula smoke jumpers are one of the most exclusive firefighting squads in the nation, and the job is in Rowan’s blood: her father is a legend in the field. She’s been fighting fires since her eighteenth birthday.

the twists and turns, I couldn't put this one down! Love, sadness, anger, twisted minds, bigotry, fear, elation. This story melds the humanity of the best and worst kind together showcasing how a person can change themselves and tjeir life for the better, or choose a different path, a path of evil, but can there be redemption? For the answer you're going to have to enter the journey...

This is one of my favorite books!
Boy am I glad to see Nora Roberts at Audible! She is an excellent author and this is one of my favorite books! Divine Evil is the first non-category romantic suspense novel that Nora Roberts wrote! It has great characters, a twistly plot line, some wonderful romance, and some nightmares, too. And, you will not figure out whose behind all the problems in that little town! Wonderful book! I highly recommend it!

Not one of her best.
For narration: It was to difficult to distinguish the different characters; their voices were too similar at times.
For the story: The end of the story came abruptly. Little to no resolution of plot lines and characters' relationships. It gave the appearance of a book rushed to publication.

A Bit Much
I'm not the biggest fan of Nora Roberts when she starts getting too deep into gruesome detail. Explaining the rape and sacrifice of a young virgin teenager is hard to listen to and I'm not sure what place it has in a "romance" book. I will say Nora has the ability to create a story that has you honestly believing it took place. Overall this wasn't a bad book. Although I really think it could have ended better. The ending felt flat to me.

Very Dark
Is there anything you would change about this book?
It was so dark and had so many evil parts. I would change my reading it...
Would you ever listen to anything by Nora Roberts again?
Yes. But I'll be more careful.
