Story
Acuff knows the reason why many writers' novels go unfinished - it's the same reason why gyms are filled in the first week of January and empty by the end of the month and why people stop learning a new language once they get past the easy parts. It's not just that people lose momentum or get distracted. People give up on projects when they fail to live up to their own high expectations and decide that if they can't do something perfectly, they won't do it at all. If you're going to finish, you have to kill perfectionism.

Alex's attempts to find the path to profitability and to engage his employees in the struggle involve the listener; and thankfully the authors' economic models.

It's comforting to imagine that superstars in their fields were just born better equipped than the rest of us. When a co-worker loses 20 pounds, or a friend runs a marathon while completing a huge project at work, we assume they have more grit, more willpower, more innate talent, and above all, more motivation to see their goals through. But that's not at actually true, as popular Inc.com columnist Jeff Haden proves. "Motivation" as we know it is a myth. Motivation isn't the special sauce that we require at the beginning of any major change.

Publisher's summary
According to the American Psychological Association's Stress in America Survey, a majority of people cite lack of "willpower" as the number one reason for the inability to make the changes needed to achieve their desired outcomes in life. Who hasn't chickened out on getting something they wanted or needed?
This book is about willpower. It offers strategies to tap into self-discipline, allowing for improved follow-through on commitments and achieving what you truly want. When you don't do what you say, when you give up or just cave, that behavior is called pulling the Chicken Switch.
Rather than just offering a plethora of case studies and checklists on willpower, Don't Pull the Chicken Switch is a fun, engaging, and relevant story. The story highlights a company's executive team's personal willpower challenges, some of the most frequent human willpower challenges faced, that when identified, addressed, and then conquered propel the executive team members individual productivity and power. This then propels their respective departments and employee personnel to new willpower, productive, and effectiveness heights.
In story form, backed with factual data about willpower, explore the physiological and psychological stimuli that affect pulling the Chicken Switch. Pulling the Chicken Switch can be avoided. Sometimes we pull it knowingly, other times we trigger it subconsciously. To not pull the Chicken Switch takes willpower. If you understand that willpower is a product of what you believe, while managing your physiological and psychological systems, you can fend off pulling the Chicken Switch and get everything you want out of life.
This book is for leaders. Organizational leaders. Team leaders. Community leaders. Individual leaders. You.

Story
Turning 30, artist and speaker Kyle Scheele wanted to do something unusual to mark this milestone. Instead of a birthday bash, he decided to hold a funeral to memorialize the decade of his life that was ending. Building a 16-foot Viking ship out of cardboard, he invited friends to help him set it on fire—a symbolic farewell to his 20s and all the grief, regret, and mistakes that accompanied those years.

Story
Eileen Sharp and Vic Hightower were frustrated. After years of profitable, predictable growth, Swan Services was in a rut. Meetings were called and discussions held, but few decisions were made and even less got done. People were pointing fingers and assigning blame, but nothing happened to solve Swan’s mounting problems. It felt as though they were working harder than ever but with less impact. The company Eileen and Vic had founded and built for 10 years was a different place. It just wasn’t fun anymore.

Story
Do you ride the escalator or do you take the stairs? No matter how you define success, it always requires one thing: self-discipline. But as popular speaker and strategist Rory Vaden explains, we live in an "escalator world", one that's filled with shortcuts, quick fixes, and distractions that make it all too easy to slide into procrastination, compromise, and mediocrity. What seems like an easier path is really much harder in the end - and, most important, it won't take you where you want to go.

Poultry ‘n Emotion!
I enjoyed the book! Both easy to digest due to the story format as well as instructive with the slightly more academic and succinct conclusion chapters. The macro message as well as several smaller, helpful nuggets, I believe , can help you start on small challenges and work toward ever bigger ones. A very good book to help you get it emotionally and intellectually!
