Publisher's summary

California in the 1960s is a time of free love and peace on Earth. But the times, they are a'changing, and Gareth Brendan is trying his best to keep up. When his wealthy, powerful uncle gives him control of an underground newspaper, Gareth finds an outlet for all the radical thoughts and ideas he's kept inside. Suddenly, he's the head of an empire of casinos and clubs, movies and magazines, surrounded by models and pimps who cater to the ultra-rich.

Dreams Die First is an explosive story of one man's vision of liberated sexuality and how he turns that vision into a life of fame and fantasy. But all that power comes at a price, as a ruthless underworld syndicate seeks to topple Gareth's throne.

Harold Robbins, the world's best-selling novelist, does it again in Dreams Die First, a tale of power and passion that transports listeners to another place and time.

Narration is awful.

Nothing more than a time filler. Story should have been edited better. Could have been much better.

Great story. Never a dull moment

Fast moving, but excellent content. Never felt like the story was dragging. Kept me engaged the entire time. I kept driving just to hear the end!

Well written story

Harold Robbins brings to life the 1970’s and the beginnings of the skin magazines hey day. Now the internet has changed things.

Skip it

I never thought that I would say this, but there is too much sex. Nearly all is not important to the story. Not my favorite Robbins oolong by a long shot

Boring

I’ve read almost all of Harold Robins books when he was still alive. All of them were great. This one was the most ridiculous, boring books I have ever read/listened to in my recent memory. I couldn’t finish it. It obviously was something that he started to write when he was alive then someone tried to finish it later. It’s not Harold Robins. 👎🏻
